I mean, is "recruiting" any different from asking him to come play? They're not taking him out to dinner and explaining the benefits of their team, are they?

When a kid literally just turned 7 and coach singles them out to play for another league/team and not inviting the rest of the team I’d say that is recruiting.

Some of these parents are WAAAY to wrapped up with the notion their Little Johnny is going to be the next Babe Ruth or something, this one douchebag father on the opposing team was barking at and berating his poor kid from the sidelines the entire game a few weeks ago. Confused

All 3 of my boys played soccer. One time at a game, the ref issued the coach a yellow card and told him if I didn’t stop yelling at my son, he’d issue a red card and the team would forfeit.

I thought the ref was overreacting because, while I was loud, I was offering encouragement and not criticizing him. Later, however, I thought it was generally a good idea because I’ve seen way too many parents screaming abuse at their kids.

When I was a referee many many moons ago if it was a field where the parents/spectators lined the field we could issue cards directly to the spectators.
If it was a bleacher situation where there was a decent separation from the field and the spectators we did not.

Never carded anyone for encouragement but did card some spectators for course comments made toward other referees (never carded anyone for yelling at me as the refs were pretty good at taking care of each other) also when parents would he course with the coaches about line changes or positioning plays.

Had our last game tonight and we were down 1 player we had 3 out with Covid and 2 just did not show up for some reason.
We played down 1 and had not subs of course. We beat the undefeated team 4 to 1 with my boy having 3 goals.

I also learned this evening that my son is technically not old enough for the different league and our current coach would have to write a letter of recommendation for our boy to play up in age. Turns out the other coach approached our current coach.

Did not realize he would be playing up a level.
At this age I do not like the idea.
Going to give him 1 more season where he is then reevaluate.

The world's not perfect, but it's not that bad.
If we got each other, and that's all we have.
I will be your brother, and I'll hold your hand.
You should know I'll be there for you!
