Prepared for the Worst, Providing the Best |
I hate it. Here's a list of my current complaints: 1. Websites that try to market to you when you're already shopping there. Brownells is the worst at this. I go there to get something specific and I have to clear 4-5 popups advertising their own site just to be able to access the page. Get out of my face! 2. Just got an email from Amazon telling me that they're going to start putting ads into prime video unless I pay an extra fee to exempt myself. I thought I was already paying for that, but oh well...sounds like it's about time to cancel the prime account. 3. Super loud and stupid advertisements in the middle of my podcasts. Usually for online gambling or sports betting, which there is zero chance I am ever going to partake in. 4. Incredibly long and pointless ads for prescription medication that I do not need, and even if I did would be up to my Dr. to prescribe, not up to me as the consumer to purchase. 5. Websites (now even vendor websites, not just ad-driven content sites) that check for popup blockers and refuse to load without disabling or whitelisting them. If your website does this, I'm automatically going elsewhere. That's just a few specific examples off the top of my head...give me a few minutes and I'm sure I can come up with more. If a company wants my business, they can stop bothering me and wasting my time with BS. I already know what I like, and if I'm looking to buy something different or unusual I'll do my own research. Make a quality product that I want to buy, have detailed and honest information about the product somewhere that I can easily access it at my convenience (preferably with third-party reviews), and have the product available when I need it. That's how you make a sale...not by behaving like a digital drunken asshole and interrupting my day all the time. While I'm on the topic, thanks Para for keeping that stuff off this page. This is one of the few places left on the net where you can come and not be bombarded with that crap.

The louder the advertisement, the stupider they think the customer is. Online gambling, Title Pawns, Toyotathon, Etc...

Technically Adaptive |
I have noticed with DirecTV that whenever I change channels there is a pause, then goes to a commercial first. Seems to add 5 minutes or so to the scheduled programs, then resets. Turner classic and maybe a couple of channels are the rare exception due to no commercials. I'm tired of paying for commercials.

My current fave is the chick who invented a new deodorant and says how great it works on her stinky butt crack and underboobs. Second runner up is the chick who is delighted to inform me that she has had many UTIs recently while her old man stands beside her grinning. End of Earth: 2 Miles Upper Peninsula: 4 Miles

That one cracks me up too. "I've had 14 UTIs in the past year...". Well, if you took better care of your cooter there sweetheart, that wouldn't be an issue for you. ________________________________________________________ "Great danger lies in the notion that we can reason with evil." I totally understand how annoying intrusive ads can be—it feels like some companies are just trying to push you away. Pop-ups and ads during streaming or shopping are the worst, especially when they interrupt what you’re doing. It really makes you appreciate the few platforms that let you focus without distractions. For my small business, I try to do things differently. I use an SMM Panel to handle social media campaigns in a way that feels natural and not pushy. It’s been great for getting real engagement without spamming people or driving them away. I think good marketing should feel helpful, not like it’s in your face. Companies that focus on better products and respectful advertising are the ones that really win people over in the long run. This message has been edited. Last edited by: hpopa89,

Ask your doctor.... if he doesn't know what I should be taking then I need a new doctor. And ask your insurance company too. If it's on TV it's a tier 4 and expensive. _____________________ Be careful what you tolerate. You are teaching people how to treat you.

Me too! I always say when I see that commercial…”Maybe try washing your snatch after your “partner Spencer” fouls that thing up”. _____________________________ Pledge allegiance or pack your bag! Advertising/marketing is a curse upon society. All these companies employ psychologists and use algorithms to try and get you. A good marketing 101 text book from a college course should be read by everyone. I’m still amazed at how gullible people are. You have to train your mind to see right through all of it. It’s all a fugazi. But it’s highly effective at the “weak minded fools” which is why it is so prevalent in society. It’s so powerful that I think 350 billion was spent in the US alone last year. I agree that the invasiveness of all of it, is infuriating. For 25 years I’ve sworn off commercial television. My main sport is over for the year (MotoGP) so this is the time where I’ll have NFL games on, on Sunday, but in the background while I do something else. When I had Dish satellite I’d pause every commercial break, then FF until the broadcast resumed. Having gotten rid of Sat service (they kept increasing price), I now use OTA for the same thing but mute the commercial breaks and will have a podcast or YT video or something to play in the interim until it’s over. Many times I can’t deal with the commercials and will just shut it off. It’s actually work to live your life and avoid commercials but it’s well worth it. These companies are on full blast 24/7 but I can largely avoid most all of it. Even YT, I refuse to pay $13 a month just to axe commercials. I’m on IOS for my daily driver so I just turn the volume down until I can hit skip on the iPad. Like you said OP, when I want something, I do my own research and make my own decisions. I don’t have the words for how much I detest mainstream, media, marketing/advertising, etc. What am I doing? I'm talking to an empty telephone

I don't mind the one with the little dog at the end. At the top of my list for the most detested commercials are any of the ones for drugs. The latest one for Farxiga doesn't even say what the drug is for. Also, along with Jardiance, it has the potential side effect of Fournier gangrene.
