Amen, brother. Maybe all my info. is out "there", maybe it isn't. If it's out there and you want it, then go get it. If it's not and it's not something you need and I don't want to share, then it's my choice not to whether you think it's silly or not.

| If you don’t want to reveal information about yourself, then don’t. If someone raises inappropriate questions about sensitive or otherwise personal matters in a discussion forum like this, just ignore them; I do that all the time after reminding myself, “Yeah, no one else needs to know that.” Why post a virtue-signaling rant that simply draws attention to oneself and is thereby actually the thing that is supposedly being objected to?

| Some people seem to have a need to virtue signal how courageous they are by ridiculing those that don't post a serial number, leave off a SSN on a form, etc., and they must post how silly such action is because "your information is already out there". Why bother to post it's my choice to share information - why bother to post such safeguarding is unnecessary in your (general you, not specific) view? The ignore can work both ways, right?

Ah, yes: You’re right and kudos for recognizing and pointing out that truth about my post so quickly. I made a small wager with myself about how long that would take. But as was pointed out to me the first time in third grade or so, two wrongs don’t make a right. If I should have ignored something, that doesn’t affect whether others should have ignored something and not poisoned the atmosphere of a thread whose question was absolutely harmless and appropriate for a forum of this type. Pointing out others’ bad manners is common here and is, I believe, what makes this a special place.

| People should have responded in typical gun forum fashion. By telling him what fishing pole they have and suggesting he buy that instead. |
