I had a problem with milk going bad before the expiration. That was the first sign my fridge was giving up the ghost.

Our Lewis Drug store sells milk and there was a period of time when I had milk I purchased there turn sour in a couple of days. I also found on opening a couple of the gallons, clumps of, I assume cream, floating on top of the milk. It reminded me of milk when I was a kid where the cream floated to the top and you had to shake the bottle to get it mixed. This is what I did in this case and it seemed to taste Ok.

It seems that this only occurred over a period of a couple months and I haven't noticed any problem since. They sell a different brand than what is sold at our supermarket and I haven't experienced any problems with their milk.

We’ve noticed the problem with milk going bad long before expiration dates as well.

My wife decided to start buying it from different store and we found that the milk she bought at Walmart seemed to consistently exceed the expiration dates, milk bought at regular grocery stores seemed to be pretty inconsistent.

Not trying by any means to plug Walmart, but that’s what we have seen.

I drink very little milk, sometimes a gallon is around for 6 weeks. I buy lactose-free. It is expensive, but it is significantly sweeter than regular milk, and will last a couple of months in the fridge.

That seems to move pretty fast at Walmart, so it probably doesn't sit in the store for too long.

I haven't noticed it.

Lower the temperature in the fridge?

Yes, this is NOT a refrigerator temperature issue.

Comments here and elsewhere indicate that something is systemically wrong with the supply chain.

This. Plus Costco milk seems to always outlast the date. I also put blue ice in the cooler we keep in the trunk for the trip home when I pickup anything frozen or fridgerated in the last 10 years.

Haven't had any issues here, but we switched to the brand A2 milk last year and it's ultra pasteurized and has a longer shelf life.

Horizon milk- long expiration dates and drink within a week after opening. Never had a problem. Plus they sell a non-refrigerated milk that is also acceptable. Just pop in the fridge the night before. Great for traveling.

I've noticed this problem here. I've narrowed it down to only milk that comes from the only Walmart in my county. Doesn't matter what brand. Milk I buy from any other store, regardless of brand, keeps longer.

Now that I've introduced the kids to Ovaltine, milk doesn't have the chance to go bad.

Lately I've noticed that milk in half gallon plastic jugs have been lasting several days AFTER the printed expiration date! Never had that in the past, but recently (past 6 months?) that has been the case. Milk purchased from different stores have all been consistent in this.

Maybe southern cows vs northern? Cool

And stored on the bottom shelf in the rear.

Maybe it's too cold (counter intuitive I know)? We keep ours in the top shelf of the door and don't have any problems with it.

Perhaps it is a nefarious plot by the makers of almond milk??? From reading these posts it is clearly a production problem.

Same here. Milk from Wally World and Dollar General seems to last longer than other places.

Been a new problem for us as well the past several months, consistently. The refrigerator works fine. It’s less than a year old. The milk just goes sour after a week or so, doesn’t matter where we put it in the fridge.

Read the labels.

I ONLY buy ultra pasteurized, homogenized.

It had a shelf life of MONTHS.

We have had the same issue twice in the past month or so. In both cases, the milk was blinky days before the expiration date.
