Unfortunately, my local refinisher passed.
I had a guy in town (locally to me, next big city is 50 miles from me), that was an FFL, and did refinishing as a side job. He refinished my AK in moly resin years ago, and did a fantastic job. I had given him my 226 mags that started developing some rust on them to also refinish. Unfortunately he passed before he could get to them.

Fortunately, his wife remembered I gave them to him, and I was able to meet her in town to get them.

Unfortunately, what I received is not all my mags Frown. I originally gave him 4 dovetailed P226 mags, one with the floor plate marked P226, and one Ramline mag. What I received was 2 of my dovetailed mags (and not my P226 marked floorplate), and the Ramline . I asked her if there were any more mags, and she said no, that was what was in the bag. I'm not going to pressure her for my lost mags. She said she would keep an eye open for them, but I doubt they'll show up. Someone else, probably, mistakenly got them. Oh well.

So, fortunately I received some of my mags back Smile. Unfortunately, it wasn't all of them. I doubt the old dovetailed mags are available anywhere now, I used to see them occasionally in the classifieds, but now that resource is gone. Anyone know where I can get a couple of 15 round dovetail mags? I looked, and it appears Mecgar is alright, I have always just used factory mags (besides the ramline range mag). Is that still the case? I am in mag restricted Kolorado, so 15 rounds is max for me.

I'm not so upset my mags are missing, as I am at the loss of a friend, but I would like to have my little collection back to whole. Thanks for listening.

I’m sorry to hear of your friend’s passing.

Can Greg Cote help you source the mags you’re after?

Dovetailed or zipper back construction means old. Old means potentially weaker springs...rust...dirt...etc.

Unless you are trying to match a vintage P226 with the period-correct magazine construction -- buy modern magazines with confidence.

Unfortunate situation.

I read a similar thing on another board a few years ago when a gunsmith passed away. He had quite a bit of customer inventory due to productivity slowing due to age, but still quite popular so lots of projects underway or in queue.

His family tried to square up customers with their property but quite a few guns were broken down, parts missing, etc.

Our sole gunsmith passed unexpectedly two weeks ago. He was in process of building rifles for several customers. I believe he kept good records and ATF will be able to get the guns he was working on back to their owners.

I thought MecGar was the current OEM MFG for Sig magazines? I have used 15, 17, and 20rd versions in my P series guns without any problems.

Thanks guys, especially for the links.

I bought this P226 in 2002, it's a German frame, no rail, short extractor 9mm, no frills pistol. When I buy pistols, I usually buy enough mags for it too so it's been 23 years since I've had to mag shop for the P226, and I've always bought factory mags.

If Mecgars are what Sig is using nowadays, I suppose that's good enough. I don't really care about the nostalgia that much, as long as the mags work reliably. I'm also in no rush to go get a couple new mags. I also may wait for the classifieds to open here and search out a couple dovetailed mags if the price is right. All in all, I'm unsure what I'll do. Still kinda bummed about my friend more so than the lost mags.

Again, thanks all.
