There was no actual car specific knowledge to be found.
That's sad. My friend is into VWs, and I attended a meet w/ him once. It was a great place to find vintage VW parts and discuss technical VW knowledge.

Just an observation,
Guys clubs , seem ( in my experience) tend to get very competitive in nature.

But after seeing the groups some women have,
And there are some exceptions,

Sewing groups, canng and garden , quilters, and greating card crafters seem more about sharing ,mentoring and plain old shooting the shit.

Camera club for me wasn't so much about sharing knowledge as it was showing off all the equipment.

Bass fishing club was more about who had the most expensive gear.

I've heard some good things about bird watching groups though.

What’s funny and I’ve said this at a car meet and really pissed some folks off, but it was the truth. And you know how that goes? People hate the truth. I had a performance car that looked stock. We call them “sleepers” but it was well modified. Added power from stock, suspension, better brakes, but it looked stock. These guys are on me about how I need this and that wheels, a wing, blah. I told them, a group of them btw, that women, most women, couldn’t tell the difference and don’t care. So in essence you are all adding what Walt in Gran Torino deemed “A big ghey wing” and such, to get other dude’s attention? I then asked them if they were gay, because I’d understand that. They were emphatic they were all straight, etc. I said really? So you do all this dumb shit to your car to get other men’s attention? Sounds pretty gay to me. The looks on their faces were priceless and no one in that group had a comeback. And they all looked real pissed off.

The only person you need to compete with in life, is yourself. Competing to make your savings better, your job better, your home better, your physical fitness and diet better. Why everyone competes with strangers, with no financial prize. No podium, no champagne, no brolly girls, no trophies, nothing. I’ll never understand it. Do things for yourself, your family, but competing with strangers with no prize money is a fools errand.

Brother had an old 4 door Impala; more than doubled the HP, and all necessary mods for that. Except for the Cragar wheels, exterior was same, including all the primer around the body repair. I thought it was the way to go, no unwarranted attention, serious car people would hear it coming, everyone else thought it was junk.

Dealing with the “experts” at car shows, know everything but in truth are full of bad information.

I'm definitely anti-social. I go for Sunday morning motorcycle rides by myself and stop by the usual meeting place for riders and say hello to my friends that I have made there over the years. I usually only stop for 15-20 minutes because I don't like sitting around and chatting. Recently, I have been skipping the rides and go fishing by myself out on the Chesapeake.

After nine years of lunches and breakfasts with one group of people or another ,

It's become a lot less attractive, the food is the same food , so that got old ,
The stories and topics of discussion are repeating themselves ,
Time and time again.

Point of order here: Antisocial refers to sociopathic, criminal behavior, Asocial refers to not wanting much to do with other people

I learn something new every day. I always thought that A Social was an informal social gathering, especially one organized by the members of a particular club or group. As in, for example, "a church social."
