Keeping the economy moving since 1964

A week ago a young lady (26) was killed in a boating accident out in the lake off Chicago. I've been hurting all week. I coached her in youth basketball years ago, her family are the nicest people I know. She was a kind, caring, loving and a totally unselfish person. I cannot understand nor fathom any of this.

At the calling hours yesterday there were easily over 1000 people standing in line outside the building. I saw many folks I know and alternately cried and got angry. This should not be fucking happening! Despite being able to get out on the boat evenings (which helps me immensely)this week I've felt like I've been punched in the gut.

All Mrs. chbibc and I can do is mourn and be there for her family.

Thanks for allowing me to rant.

Several years ago, I got word while in MI that a young man I knew died in a motorcycle crash. I knew him from substitute teaching and we talked motorcycles whenever I subbed for one of his teachers. Good kid, good family, just a waste of a promising life.

I'm sorry this happened to you.

Damn.

What caused the accident?

At night, a larger boat overtook and overran the smaller boat she was in.

Sorry.
That's all I can say.

I know all of the guys on the CPD Marine Unit, and TowBoat US who ultimately did the salvage on the boats after the investigation. It wasn't good and totally preventable, however there are a lot of amateurs out on that lake that don't realize how dangerous it is.

Here up at Lake Geneva another bad boating accident, 3 kids victims. It sounds like serious weather moved in, the boat didn’t get off the lake in time.

Sorry about the accident in Chicago.

Thanks CPD SIG. I haven't read any of the details, but have been wondering. Regardless, it's horrible.

Im so sorry for your loss.

These days it seems as though more people than not shouldn’t be running a marine vessel, don’t know the rules of the waterways, channels, or basic courtesy. It’s one of the big reasons we don’t go out on the 4th in our boat anymore. Idiots abound.
This applies to any lake/harbor I’ve been on.
Again, I’m so sorry.
