LeemurDog has cancer
I knew she wasn’t going to last much longer. Maggie is 14 and she’s been declining physically. Knowing it was imminent doesn’t make it any easier.

FredwardI understand completely. Keep in mind her physical pain is likely much worse than your emotional pain, and make the right choice when the time comes. It's never easy, my friend.

P250UA5Ugh, really sorry to hear this.
We lost our Catahoula, Luke, to it in 2018

Made even harder because his energy was normal, but he was dropping weight as it was pressing on his stomach.

whododatLap of Love is fantastic and will go to your home when the time comes.
Because son, it is what you are supposed to do.

sig sailorSo sorry Leemur. We had two beloved dogs die of cancer. Cancer sucks, in both pets and people. Wishing you all the best.

I asked myself if I was crazy, and we all said no.

cruiser68Sorry to hear. Sad times. It hurts because they are awesome. Hang in there.

RogueJSKSorry to hear that. I lost my Labradoodle to aggressive cancer (hemangiosarcoma) in July. He was the best dog I ever had.
It's tough, but we had over a decade of good times together, so I can deal with a bit of emotional pain in return for all the joy and comfort he brought me.

straightshooter1We've always had dogs and all of them were wonderful family members. We lost two to cancer and hated it. Our last baby lived almost 14 years then fell down paralyzed. Vet found a huge mass in her hind quarters and that was the 3rd to have the awful disease.
I was told a couple of years ago that 1 in 4 dogs will get cancer. Now I hear it's more like 1 in 3. I don't know if that's accurate or not, but it matches my experience.
We have two new pups now, sisters from the same litter. They are a handful, but we watch carefully what we feed them and try to do whatever we can to avoid that stinking disease.
Sorry for your Maggie and for you Lemur, I know how bad it hurts to lose one.

Some breeds are worse than others. We have Bernese Mountain Dogs and lost one to cancer this past spring at 9 years old. Doc told me a majority of deaths in the breed are from cancer. Something about bad genes from breeding.

RogueJSKLabrador Retrievers and Golden Retrievers (and their various sub-breeds like Labradoodles, Goldendoodles, etc.) are also at higher risk for cancer.

BigSwedeSorry to hear about your pup
We lost our Rotty at 7 to bone cancer, I didn't meet my wife until she (the dog) was about two and thought it was weird that the dog would yelp whenever I tried to rough house with her, particularly her hind quarters so I had to be careful. When they found it she was ok but started going down hill and we had some medicine that relieved her pain. She stopped climbing stairs easily and then not at all. I would have been devastated if she broke one of her legs because of the rot so we had to put her down

RinehartLeemur, very sorry to hear about your Maggie.
We lost our almost 14 year old Australian Shepherd Millie earlier this year to cancer. They operated to remove a growth from her liver and thought they got it all, but it came back with a vengeance. She was a good dog.
We have had five friends all lose various breed dogs to cancer this year. All of them are still mourning.
Enjoy every moment you can with your doggo
