Staring back from the abyss |
Apparently there is a large black hole there with a gravitational field that is strong enough to suck packages into and it takes them several days, if not weeks, to break free. It is so strong that occasionally a package will break free and make it to Des Moines or Omaha or even Billings...only to get sucked back into the Hodgkins black hole to remain for more days. ________________________________________________________ "Great danger lies in the notion that we can reason with evil." UPS. If we could harness the power generated we'd solve all of our energy issues. ________________________________________________________ "Great danger lies in the notion that we can reason with evil." Doug Patton.

I have noticed the Hodgkins black hole. USPS has a black hole in Memphis. Memphis sucks in all packages coming from California where they stay for a minimum of two days before being thrown back out. __________________________________________________ If you can't dazzle them with brilliance, baffle them with bullshit! Probably nobody in Illinois knows where Billings is.

Due east of Bozeman on I-90, and thats without looking at any map. Now, If you know where Hodgkins is, and who pretty much works there, you'll understand the problem. ______________________________________________________________________ "When its time to shoot, shoot. Touché.
I confess I don't. No offense to any of SF's Illinois folks was intended, apologies if so.

I do. And I’ve never been to Arkansas before.

The problem with the UPS center at Hodgkins is that there's no convenient transportation network nearby. That is, apart from the two interstates, the huge railyard, and nearby airport. Other than those, it's tough to move packages in and out of there. _____________________________________________________________________ “One of the common failings among honorable people is a failure to appreciate how thoroughly dishonorable some other people can be, and how dangerous it is to trust them.” – Thomas Sowell

IIRC, that UPS site is the old GM Fisher Body Plant site. Having grown up in a nearby suburb, we never referred to Hodgkins as a Black Hole, we called it a S... Hole. No offense taken at all!!! In regards to the “SF’s Illinois folk”- you know we’re not like the rest of the people in Ill?!?! I’d go out on a limb and say the same about New York residents. Hey, if we’re on Sig Forum, you know where our head is at! I’ve been to Southern Montana and Wyoming a few times. Without a doubt, one of the most beautiful places on earth! Hodgkins Il,… Let’s just say that the cure for cancer or the solution to life on Mars will NEVER be found there. The sad thing is, if it’s a critical part to either one, it will get lost in Hodgkins. ______________________________________________________________________ "When its time to shoot, shoot. I run trains! |
I can almost guarantee you that this is the problem. UPS packages arrive by rail and either sit waiting to be offloaded, or get bottlenecked coming out of the intermodal facility there. It's been years since I was there, but that yard is pretty busy around the clock. Lots of tractor traffic moving containers around coming and going. Its amazing more stuff doesn't get lost TBH. Success always occurs in private, and failure in full view. Complacency sucks…
