"Amazing" - It's the go-to superlative these days, for stuff people really like but can't or won't go into why. Lazy and unconvincing. We just finished Netflix' "Loudermilk" (kinda ok) and "amazing" showed up multiple times in every episode.

I lived through "far out" and "awesome", not sure who will be left standing when "amazing" finally plays out. C'mon Mad

For more than 50 years it's been my noncommittal reply to people giving me their idea that is too stupid for me to try to explain away.

My Dad always used to respond "That sounds wonderful" to people who were telling him tales. "Wonderful" meaning "bullshit".

Yep, any such praise can be used ironically, even the simple "Well, that's just Great".

I hear "amazing" used regularly as high esteem. How so, enlighten me please.
