Updated in last post: Nobody has in stock size 2 prom dresses that don’t look like a Kardashian is going to wear it
So the youngest Miss BB61 has had the the hardest time finding a size 2 (or smaller) prom dress that doesn’t look like something the Kardashians would wear.

The biggest problems are size and style. Every time she finds something she likes, they don’t make it in a size 2 or they are out of stock (if they ever were in stock). If she can find something in her size, it looks like it was designed for a trollop walking the streets in Vegas. She’s ONLY sixteen. I’m not looking for a muumuu or something from the Victorian era but can we just make some dresses for girls with some standards in life?

Adding insult to the injury, I didn’t realize how hard it is for a girl who is NOT overweight to find a dress that fits. We finally found a size 2 (don’t ask about the cost), that Mrs. BB61 is still going to have to alter so it will fit as even it is too big. Miss BB61 is 5’5 and 103lbs - similar to her friends — but you’d think every high schooler was 5’5 and 180 lbs or more.

We won’t get into the cost of these things as that is a whole different story. But I could buy a P365 by the time we get done with shoes, dress, etc. It’s not the money, we can afford it and Miss BB61 has volunteered to pay for some of it, but good grief, we are not buying a ballroom dance gown for king’s coronation.

My teenager has spent more on clothing in one year than I spent on clothing for the entire first 50 years of my life.

And it's all stuff with holes in the knees, etc. One pair has a hole in the hip pocket so stuff just falls out of the pocket through the hole. But I guess that's the style now.

how many of us out there would have been allowed to wear (even inside at home much less outside in public) some of these clothes that are considered to be "in fashion".......And the cost of these fashion modified objects are selling for a lot more cost than the original un-modifed piece of clothing..... And these items are being worn out in public by adults old enough to be the parents of these young fashionable people. ................... drill sgt.

Ugh, I've got 3-4 years until my oldest is at that point. It'll surely be even pricier by then.

I saw some Jr. Prom pics the other day and was stunned by the dresses the girls were wearing. Eek

And I work at a university and laugh about it every spring come graduation. Granted these girls are older, but still, there's appropriate attire and a time and place for things. We joke... "Oh look at you, in your stripper shoes and whore dress, grandma must be so proud!" Big Grin

I was going to suggest alterations, sounds like you’re on it. Yes, I saw some prom photos last summer, and I was a little taken aback.
I don’t have a daughter, but I understand wanting to fit in. Hopefully the missus is able to provide perspective for her here.

My granddaughter fits your description to a T & of the eight closest friends the same description. I didn’t ask what sizes but they all looked like beauty queens. From head to toe.

My wife found a deal on granddaughter’s dress @ $100.00. The dresses cost parents between $300. To $500. I feel for poor parents & their daughters. Proms have gotten expensive, like everything else.

My granddaughter is 14 and a slim 5' 8". She is in Junior Naval ROTC and had to get a dress for their ball. I could not believe how short the dress was, neither could most of our adult lady friends. It is what it is, glad I don't have to deal with it.

My wife explained it to me like this:
Her: What is a major milestone from your teen years that you remember fondly?
Me: Buying my first truck.
Her: This prom dress is her first truck. She will remember prom for the rest of her life.
Me: Here's the credit card.

When my youngest daughter picked her prom dress, I left mom with her while I went elsewhere. They texted that they were done and I returned. As I prepared to pay, the sales staff commented "She looks so beautiful in it, would you like her to put it on to show you?' I repled "No, if I see it I won't buy it." Dads are funny that way Smile

A bridal shop and it'll need alterations.

We tried them too but thanks. We had the same problem, either no size 2 dresses or they look like something either your grandmother or a prostitute would wear. Nothing cute that is actually modest for a petite girl - plenty of dresses for the bigger girls though.

The thing is that you can only alter a garment so much before it looks goofy. Men's stores try this all the time too. Alterations only look good for minor changes not a complete rebuild.

$500 for a prom night doesn't sound so bad. Enjoy it. Wait when she gets married, then you can cry. :-)

"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." Probably too late, but my wife has the same issue. 5’/100 lbs. size 0-2. NOTHING is ever in her size.

We found that the stores that cater to the Hispanic community have dresses for the girl’s quinceañera. Half the store was in her size. The best part, the dresses were affordable.

BB61, I'm glad you found a solution. I would have thought that in your neck of the woods, there would be a greater supply of modest prom/ball dresses of all sizes.

I recall dropping off my oldest son to homecoming his freshman year more than 10 years ago. I couldn't believe what some of the young ladies were wearing, leaving little to the imagination. I had to get out of there quickly least I get arrested for solicitation. Holy smokes!
