The HOA has made a mess of our private road. It was originally large gravel and it was determined that a smaller gravel was needed. I did an analysis of the water run off from some driveways and areas that washed the road and where additional drain pipe was needed. So what did they do?? They took all the large gravel off and in doing so, took the crown out of the road. The finer gravel lasted for many years but they never fixed the drainage problems. Next they decide to put down millings at a great expense. The people that did it did a poor job with no uniform thickness. It looks like they just dumped a load and didn't spread it out evenly. In some places it is over 16 to 18 inches thick. A garbage truck did a lot of damage due to the speeding at 50+ MPH causing potholes. Now they want to put down more millings or blacktop. 41

Sounds like your HOA must have consulted with the head of WV DOH District 4!This message has been edited. Last edited by: ridewv, No car is as much fun to drive, as any motorcycle is to ride.

In 2020 we drove to SC through WV. We commented that WV had the best roads of the entire trip. Last weekend we made the trip again and the same WV roads were absolutely trashed. Is it a state wide problem?

State wide to an extent but consistently the worst in my travels through WV are district 4 which has the most miles of any district. Governors tend to focus and spend funding on new roads opposed to maintaining our existing ones. I just rode through Tucker County where there is new divided highway being constructed through some of the nicest wilderness in the State, that we need like a hole in the head! The construction sign boasted that WV was spending $90,000,000 of road funds on this one road! No car is as much fun to drive, as any motorcycle is to ride.

Lived in WV for 56 years, I remember when state road (WV DOH) ACTUALLY built roads instead of mowing grass and plowing snow. I empathize with your frustration, just look at all the $ wasted in Fairmont on the fucking Allen Mollahan expressway exit. We are now putting in roundabout(AKA circles) LMAO, Other states take them out. Our DOH engineers are retarded at best...And that is being kind.

Loudoun County has a bunch of roundabouts. They work fairly well when people learn how to use them. 41

Yeah that's quite an expensive new road just to let people get to Fairmont from I-79. How many people even GO to Fairmont anymore? What adds insult to injury is that 5 years ago the people of WV voted for quite a large road bond to get our roads back in shape. I waited patiently year after year just for a bit of that money to trickle down to repave our road. 5/24/2018 CHARLESTON, WV – West Virginia’s largest-ever tax-exempt financing deal has yielded $800 million, plus expected interest, for hundreds of Roads to Prosperity projects statewide, Gov. Jim Justice announced Thursday. Justice administration officials also secured an attractive, 3.575 percent blended, borrowing interest rate on the series of general obligation state road bonds sold this week. With interest, these road bonds should ultimately leverage $915 million in borrowing for Roads to Prosperity. “This is a huge step forward in our $2 billion-plus program that is going to absolutely transform West Virginia,” Gov. Justice said. “The benefits from this are just tremendous – all kinds of construction jobs now and then long-term economic gains from improved roads and bridges.” Voters overwhelmingly approved this approach to financing massive improvements to the Mountain State’s roadways, passing the necessary bond amendment in an October 2017 special election by approximately 73 percent. Gov. Justice said this week’s success on Wall Street rewards West Virginians for their vote of confidence. With Roads to Prosperity improvement projects already underway, this historic bond sale further ensures their success...... No car is as much fun to drive, as any motorcycle is to ride.

Thankfully after a month of traffic much of the stone has gone over the hill or into the ditch so I can ride my Goldwing and larger street bikes again. But what a shame and waste of resources. To think this was a 2.1 mile paved road that 37 houses are on. I feel sorry for them, they'll have to keep their windows closed all Spring, Summer and Fall because of dust (other than when it's raining). No car is as much fun to drive, as any motorcycle is to ride.
