Mixed drinks at restaurants
How hard is it to make a consistent drink? Two margaritas both taste different. Had the same issue with old fashions.

It’s to the point I’m just going to order beer.

One of the reasons I either drink a beer or scotch over.

#1 Reason why I stick with beer or a bourbon on the rocks. I love a Manhattan but I rarely get a good one so I don't bother

It's hard to screw up a Scotch as it was meant to be drunk.
The hard part is when you get the bill for almost any drink now days. Frown

Most of the casinos have the drinks on the gun. Just shoot it in the glass. Call drinks and top shelf liquor are separate.

It takes some skill to mix drinks properly. Restaurants often do not have the expertise. I have seen skilled bartenders pick up a bottle and know the number of shots left.

Hate ordering mixed drinks or margaritas while out. Always a disappointment. Margaritas are mostly corn syrup. Mixed drinks are rarely what I expect. I’m to the point of just ordering a shot and ordering a coke on the side. Then I mix it myself.

With all of the staff turnover restaurants and bars have experienced the last 2.5 years consistency has flown out the window. Probably a little gun shy on investing in training staff if they won't stay.

It's annoying when a drink isn't the same. Even worse, I have a garlic intolerence and it can ruin an afternoon or evening when a restaurant I've safely eaten at a dozen plus times unexpectedly adds garlic to something.

On our anniversary, I ordered a VO on the rocks and had to explain several times as to what it was I wanted.

Don’t dare order bourbon with a splash of water. Apparently a splash can be a drop on up to 12oz. Mad

Ever since Covid when I learned how to make cocktails I've been disappointed with bar drinks. I'm shocked when I get to a real bar that knows what they are doing.

But usually, ask them if they can make a classic daiquiri and they say some stupid shit like, "I don't have any strawberries or an Island Oasis machine." Fuck, it's just rum, sugar, and lime.

And don't even get me started on the overly sweet margaritas with sour mix. Tequila, lime, orange liqueur. I wouldn't lose my shit if they added a tiny bit of agave syrup. But damn the stuff at most bars is horrible.

Then the whiskey sour. They will literally pour the whiskey over rocks and then pour sour mix on it. WTF. When I make mine it has good bourbon, lemon juice, Demerara syrup, egg white, and 3 drops of bitters. Made with love...

I’m intrigued. Where’s your bar??

I had an old fashioned for the first time last week. Went to a chop house with the 1SG and he bought. Must say it was a damn good drink. Definitely want to get it again but now I'm afraid it won't be as good elsewhere. LOL.

My favorite riff on an old fashioned is Barbancourt 15 year rum. Maple syrup, a few dashes bitters over a big cube. Awesome.

I started making my own fresh fruit syrups like passionfruit (which I grow) and grenadine (grenadine is NOT simply red colored sugar water). What a difference! I never order any mixed drinks from a bar, nothing would come close to the quality I’ve come to expect Smile

I’m too lazy to make my own syrups. I do basic ones like simple, honey, Demerara. But I buy syrups from Liber and Co. Good quality, a bit pricey. They are available on Amazon prime.

Would it be considered blasphemous if I had my old fashioned in an insulated metal container instead of a "proper" glass?
