Usually happens at work. Someone is complaining about how hungry they are but forgot their lunch at home.

I'll tell them that I have sandwich fixings, and that they can help themselves.

But then they don't like wheat bread. Or whatever cheese I have. Or the cheap salad dressing in a jar I buy instead of mayonnaise. Or all of the above.

But somehow, I'm the asshole for not having a better buffet spread out in front of them.

They can either wait until they get home, or enjoy the overpriced garbage in the vending machine. I'm tired of trying.

Fortunate that my office keeps a stock of sandwich fixins in the breakroom. Used to be Ramen Cup-o-soup
Handy to throw together a PBJ or cold cuts sandwich if I forget, or don't have, leftovers.

Never understood being picky about free.

It's the entitlement society we live in today. People feel entitled to not just everything but the best of everything.

Remind them of what Marie Antoinette said,

First, how the hell do you forget your lunch at home?

Second, I'd just go back and get it if it was that big of a deal, or go buy something. Begging? No.

Of course it's possible to forget your lunch , occasionally . Stuff happens . Complaining about something that is offered is beyond tacky . Decline politely and move on . The guys that I worked with would have said " There it is , help yourself . " Act stupid and they wouldn't have offered again .

Do they really whine and give you grief over that? I’m picky but if I don’t like what someone has to offer I’ll politely decline and thank them anyway. Anything else is just rude.

Yes, they actually do. It happens elsewhere, but this one just set me off. I guess that's what you get for trying to be helpful.

You DO realize there's only one way to fix this, right?

Two words: TOUGH and SHIT

I wouldn't even offer it to them anymore. Tough shit, go hungry.

I have a very thick foam cranial protective head covering for people that are fall risks.

If you promise to make these morons wear it when they beg for food ,
I will gladly send it to you.

But
You need to post their photos here.

Once had a food thief at work that like to take other peoples food.... But I fixed that by bringing a catchup bottle of Hot and Spicy.. And it was hot and spicy.. Factory bottled but I had removed all of the paper badge labeling except a small paper band at top of bottle... 2 nd day the bottle was in the fridge found out who the thief was when he went crying to the shop foreman that someone was trying to poision him.... Had to take the bottle home never to return....Food stopped disapearing from the fridge............................ drill sgt.

I forgot my lunch about once in high school. I sucked it up and learned from the experience. Some kids would borrow anything and you would never see it again.

That would be something I would do - like say I don't like what you are offering - just to yank your chain. My guess is they were just trying to have some fun with you. Don't take it too personal.

"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." Viktor Frankl, Man's Search for Meaning, 1946.

I wouldn't dare be so ungrateful, but I guess some people have no shame.

Yeah, or someone says they ‘need’ a phone, but an IPhone 8 isn’t good enough.

If your dog gets hungry enough, he’ll eat the food.

Now let’s go to the wild, there’s just about nothing a coyote won’t eat if times are lean. That includes picking through cow poop to eat kernels of corn.

I’m not picky, it makes it all much easier.
