I ordered a couple of gift cards for my niece and one of her sons (my great nephew) for their birthdays. They're in mid-Tennessee and delivery was something like a week or more. OK...they don't live in a large city (but certainly not in the sticks), so maybe delivery takes a while to get where they are.

I just ordered my monthly gift card for my wonderful gal pal who takes care of my kettehs when I'm on a trip. Delivery is Feb 27-29...9-11 days???? What the actual F?!?!?!? We live in the 3rd or 4th largest city in the friggin' country! The distribution center is a 15-20 minute drive from either of our houses!! JSMH...[closes eyes...shakes head...long sigh]

My wife sends Amazon gift cards to the kids and grand-kids. They are delivered almost instantly (186,000 miles per second). Here's a link to the Amazon web page where you can specify delivery via email or text, your choice.

Yeah...electronic is an option and I'd send her the gift cards via e-mail delivery, but she NEVER checks her e-mail. I know...that's not my problem, but I try to accommodate those that are "doing me a favor".

If you want to buy a physical gift card, just buy one at your supermarket. Other stores have them too, such as Walgreens, CVS, convenience stores, etc.

Because these are high value low physical profile items, they probably don’t let some processing center schlub program the actual cards or place such cards spitting from a machine into envelopes…too much risk of theft.

Amazon offers a choice for eCard delivery. You can specify text instead of email if that would work better.

I used to send some Amazon cards to my granddaughter, did it through text. I changed a while ago and went with Vanilla Gift Cards for a Visa Card. It costs a bit more with the shipping but they do get them there promptly. She can shop in local stores for clothes. I, also, like that I can add one of my photos to the card, personalizes it. A $200 card cost $214 with Fedex shipping, ordered Sunday, delivered Wed.

Patriot...been sending these gift cards for 6 1/2 years; the entire time I've had my kittehs. Up until today's order, delivery has ALWAYS been no more than 3 days from date of order, and most of the time 1 or 2 days max. I'm just not sure if this is an isolated case or if it will be the norm going forward.

Technically, not quite. Most of the way may be fiber optic, but whereever it's copper, CAT6 Nominal Velocity of Propogation is about 0.7C. Once you factor in that and the electronics latency, you're probably down at ~100,000 miles per second.

Heck, at that rate, you might as well send them USPS.
