Not only that, they DEMAND it because they think they are better than you. It's a survival strategy of the talentless.

I am the director of all digital/computer graphics for a major Architectural firm. I set procedure and method to ensure success within limitations of the equipment and substrates. I AM color control. I know the gamut limitations and where things MUST stay so all parts will be consistent. I ensure the production department's machines are properly profiled and the linearizations are identical.

Designers, artists and computer graphics must comply with my directions. Even the project managers must clear any change to specs with me before production and have a prototype sent through.

I demand art to be consistent to prevent production issues. If you do a production drawing, start with the chosen color. If it be paint, or Pantone make sure every instance of it is identical and not some RGB substitute. Which means, don't be lazy, do your job.

Well, we have this one high strung "designer" that takes offense when you ask a question or need a change. She talks down to the people who are not "artists" and is absolutely condescending to try to make them feel stupid.

It's all so she can submit sloppy, mediocre work for my graphics team to rebuild, wasting valuable project time. She's been warned multiple times over hostility toward coworkers.

I had to warn her once for belittling my graphics trainee that was a former digital machine assistant now promoted. I had to remind her that I had an actual art degree and more experience than she's been alive. In fact, the equipment manufacturer hires me to train customers when they make a major purchase.

Anyways, she turned in some shit sloppy art on a major project on the new digital graphics girl and just expected her to work through it. Well, I sent it back and asked for consistency.
She called my desk bucking for a fight with the lead project manager beside her on speaker.

She INSISTED there were no problems with her work and it MUST be my grapics person as I'm taking her art apart in my advanced software that will inspect EVERY hidden element she has buried in her sloppy work. I call out the erran t layers and ask her to please help me out. This needs to get out and my department is overwhelmed.

She just yells at me "IT'S NOT MY JOB!!!! YOU ARE IN CHARGE OF COLOR AND FIXING PROBLEMS!!!!"
I just replied, maybe you should just be a team player and straighten this out for me real quick. I have 25 paint colors alone in this project to get in CMYK compatible gamut for production. Are you refusing my request to fix your art?

She got quiet. The just said I will comply and send you proper art and slams the phone down so hard I can hear it all the way into production.

THEN she sends an email to me instead of dropping the file into the proper server directory of the SAME FUCKED UP shit art, but this time with 200% more stupid shit in it.

This wasn't even on purpose. She is TRULY this inept.

No, that was my former supervisor when I got promoted.

We are thick as thieves now. She can't even work the graphics software, but she can use the database system like a second language.

This stupid bitch actually told the marketing director that she made her "fear for her life" when she asked for some resources.

I enjoyed your commentary about Round 1 and am thinking Round 2 will be even more glorious in exposing her inabilities. Please post the results after the mushroom cloud of her gigantic ego exploding subsides. Smile

I am certain that there are people who understand all of this.

I am also certain that I am not one of those people.

When I eat certain foods I am pretty sure that this too shall pass.

Her attitude has been complete shit since she can no longer "work from home" (sit around and turn in shit work at the last second and go back to fucking off).

She was "working from home" for 6 months. Her work was absolute chaos. She got caught with a server ping from Orlando with correspondence on this particular project and got docked 2 weeks vacation pay.

All the production staff were livid as vacations MUST be approved in advance by a supervisor.

She thinks if she makes everyone miserable enough, she can just "work from home" again.

I'm betting if that works out, she'll be "working from home" alright...For another company.

Since you are on the Director level, can’t you speak to her Manager?

I just demonstrated the issue to the senior artist here. He has an advanced art degree like I do , but he is a true artist and my skill set is more technical. I deeply respect this man. His work is impeccable. We can ask each other advice and criticize each others' work without having our "feelings" hurt. It's just business and we have a job to do successfully.

His response was that's just lazy, sloppy work.
He had heard for years how bad it was, but never had to deal with it.

He said it's her millennial attitude of not wanting to put in all the effort necessary to complete the work. It's the reward with no effort attitude.

I can remember nights of getting my ass kicked by an imagesetter choking on non-printing elements some stupidass "designer" (some idiot with no formal education that got themselves a computer and inkjet printer and now are a deeeesiiiiiigneeeeer) had buried in their artwork. From this experience, I can keep production streamlined and efficient. I know the problems and how to eliminate them before they happen.

The mediocre don't seem to understand how important it is to check your work as you work.

Well I think they do, but just don't give a shit. Let someone else handle it.

However these assholes are laser focused on their vacation time.

However, people like the senior artist and I don't really get vacations, but we are rewarded with trips to Vegas, bonuses and tokens of appreciation (this year I got a Breitling).

Our last "motivational" meeting where all supervisors get yelled at for issues, the president pointed at me and said "see him, that man right there, he's the reason any of you have a paycheck. The company would not be running without him. You WILL do what he asks of you."

Happening this morning.

Her manager is the VP above me and my superior is direct to the president. I will reschedule things for the VP as a courtesy, but can actually tell him I will fit something in as soon as possible if needed and he can't force it. He is always gracious for any cooperation.

There seems to be a growing problem with people that can’t take the least little bit of criticism. They’re so convinced of their abilities and ideas that anything less than high praise is a personal attack. I’ve seen it a lot in the last 20 years. It’s only going to get worse.

Seriously though, it is amazing how frustrating people can be that are lazy and don’t give a f***.

...awaiting update...

I'm in a similar situation:

I'm the General Manager of a manufacturing plant. Everything from the licensing to the toilet paper. We make instruments to custom orders, of many varying options. I answer directly to the owner who has the sales & tech support office in Commiefornia. His sales guy there will sell any amount or combination of line items whether they'll even fit the instrument or function together. Too many times to count I've had to advise them their order was unbuildable as sold, which has resulted in him going back to the customer with egg on his face to reconfigure. I've implored him many times to run it by me when he's got a questionable config. Nope, can't be bothered.

Our sales people have to submit a sample order to ensure the project can be manufactured to the customer's approval. If everything is not off the shelf, we prototype and set a procedure for the project.

I am the final say so on color and substrate in digital graphics. I can send things off to paint or silkscreen if the colorspace is outside of gamut limitations.

This is going on all around the country, wife's company is dealing with it, and it's not just millineals, all age groups.

People got used to working at home, with that comes great trust they are at the desk working.
People handle this freedom differently, many take the ability to move around to extreme, it's like playing hooky in high school. So they and do things during the day, run errands, see a doctor, mow the yard, watch tv, go to Disney all on the companies dime.

Letting folks work from home is going to be difficult for companies to manage, especially with the shortage of willing to work labor. People can and are moving to companies that continue to let them WFH... and those coming in there is a group that isn't happy and comes up with every excuse.

The best way to blow up someone telling you they have a fear of COVID still and don't want out in public is to ask them why they were in Costco last week, at a concert downtown, dancing at a bar, walking around the park, mask free, all you need is to be able see their facebook account.
