Speaking of hydration, we hiked 6.4 miles yesterday and without regular hydration we would have been a statistic for the news. “Nearly retired couple found dead on trail only five miles from help.” I could not believe the difference in pace and in body pain. Without water, no bueno. It was only 80 F, and mostly shaded, but the elevation gained and lost around the lake was nearly 900 feet. We only took a lunch and three 16 ounce water bottles. We didn’t drink often enough. Next time I am setting an interval timer, and bringing at least 10 ounces per mile. ------- Trying to simplify my life...

Acclimation also plays a role. I find hiking and working outdoors early in the summer to often be more draining and require even more hydration than doing the same at the height or end of the summer, even though the temperatures are higher later in the summer. I just get more used to it as the season goes on.

We’ve had a bizarre spring here (with snow/sleet/cold all the way into May). I notice for whatever reason that the pollen dump is especially heavy this year. I’m allergic to most pollens, so I also often get the headache and sinus reaction afterwards despite taking a Zyrtec or Claratin. (One aspect regarding allergy medicine is that it is always best to take it regularly I.E. before vs. taking one after you feel allergic symptoms). What I’ve found works best if I’m going to mow is either wear a mask (which I confess I don’t always do) or immediately wash my face when I come back inside and take a shower before going to bed.

Hop head |
this year has been the worst for me pine pollen got me all stuffed up and sore throat, over quickly, then a mild case of the sniffles for the oak pollen, then cut the grass at my house, then over at my shop (guessing cutting about 3 acres) moved or mowed a lot of leaves and grass, guessing the mold count was high, and have had itchy eyes, and a stuffed up head since Tuesday, mucinex seems to be the answer so far https://chandlersfirearms.com/chesterfield-armament/

I was going to suggest a positive air flow respirator. I used one for years in my work and with a very simple full head cover shield that was comfortable and nice. but I can't find that model anywhere... probably 5-600 dollars now. But while searching I did find this little cheap one that is not that bad an idea. $50 https://www.amazon.com/gp/prod...03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 My Native American Name: "Runs with Scissors"
