“Performance Punishment” - the better you are at your job the more you “get” to do, and usually without any additional compensation.

Meanwhile the slackers and their habitual underperformance are ignored and tolerated by the folks asking (and expecting) more from you.

What part of "...Shall not be infringed" don't you understand???

Do your job.

I don't care what your job is, do it.

Do you need to do more? No. But do your fucking job.

There are loads of soul crushing jobs out there. If you are motivated, move up.

It DOES pay to be the guy everyone relies on, but YOU need to make it pay. If you aren't happy with your compensation, go get it, dummy.

Stand up for what you are worth.

Exactly!!!! Thank goodness that I am out of that situation now. Not as much pay now but far less stress and aggravation. It’s not worth it (at least not for me).

And they get paid the same as you in most cases.

Hell I’ve been retired for 4 years and got a call this morning from my former Architect about a technical aspect of construction.

I told him I’d send him the bill…

Or, slow down to what they thought you were worth.

There ARE elements in companies that will prevent others from moving up.

The reward for doing good, hard work is more good hard work to do.

In the beginning, you don't mind it. Then, after a while, you become upset that the lazy, inept, stupid and/or related get rewarded, and you're still doing good, hard work.

I’ve been retired about a year and 4 months, got a similar call this morning. I said I can help you out, I accept Mastercard and Visa, do you have a credit card number for me?

I left because on no pay raise for several years and ever increasing work requirements, they can’t figure it out, I’m more than happy to help for a small phenominal fee.

I had a job where someone once said "You know everything about this place. Talk about job security."

This was minutes after being notified that I was being let go.

Officially it was due to corporate telling each branch to cut out one supervisor. I think it was actually due to me marrying a coworker without telling my boss.

I think the best is when you listen to Arc's advice and follow through, and then they see your true worth.

I left a company 8 years ago after being there for 8 years. I fully wore 7 different hats, but they didn't do performance-based evaluations, and instead gave raises on "profit sharing" so I was still being paid the same as the guy next to me that barely met the base of production requirements.

When I gave my notice, I offered to train a few people on the tasks of the hats I wore. Apparently I wore them so well, management had no idea how difficult these tasks actually were.

No one was trained, and when I left the place fell apart quickly. They reached out to me and asked me to help them out. I quoted them a consulting fee of 4X my current hourly rate (I took a raise when I went to my new company) with a 4 hour minimum per instance. They accepted my terms and I was able to train some people to properly handle the tasks that I had been doing.

I am still in contact with a former supervisor that has since become the VP of operations. He tells me every time we grab a beer how expensive of a lesson it was when I left.

I shall respect you until you open your mouth, from that point on, you must earn it yourself.
