No this not about riflescopes or red dots or binos. It's that cutesy, sickening way of saying how something looks in the context of a certain situation. Catchy catch phrase run amok. Probably invented by some Madison Ave ad firm. Or Hollywood. Hear it one more time and I swear there will be some glass shattering run amok.

First time I’ve heard that one, and I’m already tired of it.

That's because with this group of losers in the world, perception is far more important than what actually happened.

It used to be about appearances. Or how things look. Or perceptions. Now it's the optics.

How many ways do we really need to say the same thing?

What is really wrong about just using the word perceptions?

I loathe it too but loathe “perception is reality” more. Any time anyone says that bullshit, either little quote, I immediately follow with “never judge a book by its cover” and they shut the fuck up real fast.

Perceptions, depending on context, can be important. But just use the word perceptions instead of optics.

"Perception is reality" is inaccurate and false. Perception can be as influential as reality. Perceptions can be, falsely, believed as reality. While it is not reality, perceptions can drive the same behaviors and decisions as effectively as reality.

I was a software developer at BellSouth for four years. Meetings were tolerable when BellSouth was running the show. Then, they contracted responsibility for software development to Anderson Consulting. The "corporate speak" that saturated team meetings led by Anderson managers was nauseating.

But the optics are not promising for all stakeholders.

Running this up the flagpole, marketing says that out of the box paradigm shifting will lead to better optics with the down stream end user.

These are the sorts of meetings where the best thing to do is stretch your arms over your head while leaning back in your chair, let our a nice relaxing groan, reach down and scratch your balls, then sit back up and look around like you are interested.

Fixes this shit every time.
