Yesterday we got a call that the ID said was from Walmart. The wife answered and the voice sounded far away and foreign. She hung up and the phone rang again from the same Walmart ID number. I let it go to the answering machine but they declined to leave a message and didn't call again.

So the wife GOOGLED the number and it was an official Walmart number from, I think it was Georgia. Wife called and spoke to Walmart and they reaffirmed that they never called us.

So, they can spoof real phone numbers and have the ID show the proper credential. Gotta be careful.

Yes, Caller ID spoofing technology has been available for several decades now.

Hence why no matter what they say or what the caller ID shows, if they call you, you hang up on them and call the company directly yourself.
