My 8 year old got an amazon gift card for Christmas. She had something she wanted, so I searched it and added it to cart. Then she asks if she can look for other things before we finish. She scrolls down and at the bottom of the page is “buy it again”…all the stuff they got for Christmas. She says “oh” and the light bulb goes off. Thanks amazon for your stupid algorithm, if I wanted to buy it again I’d look at my history. Don’t display all my stuff at the bottom of the page. I HATE amazon!!!!!

Or maybe don't let an eight-year-old roam freely in your Amazon account? "America is at that awkward stage. She wasn’t roaming freely on the account, I was right with her. I shouldn’t have let her look at screen? Thank you for your thoughtful advice

No. If you’ve used Amazon for more than a week, you should really know that your recent purchase history (and related suggestions) are displayed in multiple locations. I’d be annoyed right along with you if they shipped something in its own box that revealed the contents for your entire household to see (without the usual pre-warning during shipping, of course), but in this case, it’s kind of how they work. Helpful hint: If she uses the same family computer under the same profile as everyone else, you should also know that your browser of choice may show recent search history and certainly targeted ads as well if you don’t take steps to clear your history and cookies. -Rob I predict that there will be many suggestions and statements about the law made here, and some of them will be spectacularly wrong. - jhe888 A=A

Santa uses Amazon to get the gifts to where they need to be? Well thanks for ruining that for me. Next thing you’ll tell me is he uses Alexa to keep track of who’s been naughty or nice. Eight years was a good run. Some kid at school or a cousin was going to let the cat out of the bag soon anyway, so at least you were there when it happened and have the story to tell.

You can hide things in your purchase history. This would also keep them off your buy it again I believe just for the reason you post, gifts. _____________________________ Pledge allegiance or pack your bag! Yep. 8 years old is a good time for them to start understanding that it's Mommy and Daddy who work hard to earn money to pay for the things that they want/need, and not some magic fat guy just handing out free stuff.

Yes, you are right. Honestly I think she’s suspected for a couple of years. But this was the nail. But what pisses me off is how amazon sets up their pages or really “conducts business” Imagine years ago going to a department store to sit on Santa’s lap and having one of the store employees running around telling everybody “Santa’s not real” I know amazon doesn’t know they are Christmas presents, but don’t regurgitate everything I’ve bought back to me. Stupid platform.

Yeah I get the frustration with Amazon on this. But 8 is about the age they figure it out. They figure it out in various ways. It seems being old enough to use a computer and search Amazon is one of them. Interestingly my wife bitched me out for asking Alexa what my notifications were just before Christmas. I hadn’t thought about that Alexa may tell me what gifts have been delivered. These go to eleven.
