On the scratch your belly suggestion... The military has some fine quality cowhide gloves. Claw and tooth proof. You can put one on a hand and actually scratch the cats belly. They think they've got you, but suddenly all the claws and teeth don't seem to be working. Its fun, but I'm not trying my luck very often. I'm old and heal slowly these days.
