Ordered some solar supplies, ($1400) from an on-line company and went weeks without hearing anything from them. Finally got in touch with them and they promised delivery. 6 times they gave me delivery dates and nothing ever showed. They had no intentions of shipping it. Got lucky and Visa refunded my money, no questions asked. Reordered, ($2200) through another company, called and talked to them prior to ordering. Everything seemed legit. It's been 4 weeks and nothing has shipped, again another company promising deliveries that never happen. Ordered 11,000 bricks last fall for an addition on my house, they delivered 2500 2 months ago and can't track him down now. The bricklayer paid the guy in full.

I once bought a rare Lego set and the box was full of cat litter.
At least it was new cat litter.

The wife got scammed by a fake merchant site. It looked like a legit thrift store had an online outlet. She bought a thing for $53, paid via PayPal. Shortly afterwards she got a notification from Amex of a $570 charge. Sleuthing shows the Paypal account goes to Asia.
