In order to cash a USPS M.O. the teller must have accumulated enough cash in their register that shift to cover it.

So picking up the signature required envelope when they open, removing the M.O. and cashing it so you can go down the road and ship the item is not really a valid plan.

How in the hell does a business that sells M.O.s not keep funds on hand to redeem them.

The supervisors at all 3 of the Post offices all had the same advice; you can depost it at your bank or CU. Yea dipshit, then the buyer has to wait for it to clear for me to ship them the item.

I was able to cash it at my second trip to the first PO I went to only because a manager chased me out to my truck as I was leaving to tell me that a guy in line behind me paid cash for a $700.00 money order.

In the past it was never an issue cashing postal money orders but as more and more people use debit cards cash flow at post offices have dried up. I had the same issue a few months ago trying to cash a postal MO for a grand. None of the post offices in my area had that much cash on hand so I eventually deposited the MO in my bank. It only took a day or two for the money to show up in my account so no big deal. You can verify at the post office that the money order is legitimate and then deposit it in your account, really no need to wait for it to clear like you would a personal check.

I was told they couldnt even cash a $250 postal money order at 2pm a while back. I started using my bank after that. But its been a while since ive dealt with money orders. Is definitely flawed.

I've run into this before as well. You need to go to a busy post office later in the day!

That happened to me also. Was told to go to the main post office so I did. They also didn't have cash.

On one hand, I can understand how they can't stock cash for large anounts of cash but $700 ought to be covered on any day out of some safe in the back.

"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." I did. The problem is that the busy post office has more windows open so each till has less in it. The busiest PO here still could not cash it 25 minutes before closing.
