I hear ya. Can't blame anyone for doing the same. I'm just not like the trend. Because the movie studios are all gonna pull the exact same shit. I'm happy with HBO/SHO/STRZ, etc, setup and discs. The big movie studios do this same streaming shit, and cut out discs, man, my passion for film is going to die and that will hurt my soul. Fucking Disney already owns ESPN. I've had enough with all of it. Greedy ass bitch ass companies. Maybe Apple will solve this shit. It's the wild wild west right for streaming and they are digging their own graves. What am I doing? We finally cut the cord with comcast and went to Hulu Live. Have not even been with hulu for 2 weeks and now find out they are raising the cost $10 next month. Between the $5 for ad free and the $10 for enhanced DVR so we skip commericals we are only saving $30 a month over cable.

$30 is $30. We don't do ad free or DVR. Once college football is over we'll cancel more than likely.

No surprise there. TBH: We've never found Hulu to be a good value proposition. We had it a couple years ago. Cancelled after three months. You just watch: Right now the new Disney streaming packages are $7/mo. for just Disney+ and $13/mo. for Disney+, ad-supported Hulu, and ESPN+. I guarantee you that, as soon as they feel they've achieved sufficient market dominance, those prices will start climbing. If nothing else: ESPN cannot possibly be profitable at that package price.
Between Netflix, Amazon Prime, PBS Passport and the subscription for our OTA DVR we're paying a bit less than $40/mo. While it's true that's not much less than some cable or satellite basic subs, we're also getting free 2-day shipping on our Amazon purchases, and OTA TV, incl. the network DVR, is accessible from every TV in the house and our mobile devices--on our mobile devices even when we're away from home. Same here. We have Hulu right now as well, but only until the College Football season is over, then it's gone.

Yup your situation is becoming common, especially if also have Netflix or 1-2 streaming services. All these companies are going to pair off, take their shit and exclusively have it on their app. It’s gonna cost more than cable, a lot more. I’m just waiting for wanting to watch content across all these apps. Amazon Netflix Disney Apple Fox Universal Sony Warner Bros Columbia Pictures Paramount Pictures The shit is coming. The cable/satellite companies should have just gone a la carte on channels years ago. I don’t complain about my satellite service though. It’s $75 a month. Donnie Branco is on Showtime right now. And I’ve got Casino on 4k disc to watch tonight. What am I doing? I'm talking to an empty telephone

I predict it won't, and here's why: Sports has traditionally been the most expensive thing for cable and satellite providers to supply by far. So expensive that, in an interview I caught on NPR one afternoon on the way home, years ago, an ESPN exec claimed that if they had to offer just their service a la carte they estimated they'd have to charge $46/mo. What this means is cable/satellite customers have been heavily subsidizing sports channels all along--whether they subscribed to them or not. I don't recall the number, exactly, but several years later I read an article that broke down the wholesale costs to cable/satellite providers by channel. The upshot was that if sports was removed from cable lineups, customers' bills could be cut nearly in half, IIRC, and the providers would still make a hefty profit. This is why I claimed, above, that Disney will not be able to maintain selling that bundle at $13/mo. They're certainly losing money at that price. What this means for non-watching-sports consumers is they won't be paying to subsidize sports any longer. What it means for those who have to get their sports fix is it's gonna cost 'em. The other thing streaming customers won't be subsidizing is a whole raft of low-interest, special-interest channels. This means those will probably simply disappear--unless some streaming service can bundle 'em and sell the package for cheap. "America is at that awkward stage. Someday someone will find a way to consolidate all these streaming channels under one umbrella/payment. They will call it “Cable TV +”

I just realized, as a result of this meme posted on FB that we've never seen Wonder Woman. And it's possible we never will. We don't go to the theatre any more (haven't for years), it's not on Netflix or Amazon Prime, the local video rental store closed its doors several months ago, and we're going to buy it unless we happen to discover it in a $5 bin somewhere.
