Rant on:

My daughter thinks I'm a little bit twisted about things like this, but how people use and speak the language is important.

Yesterday she and I were in the drive thru at my local Starbucks and she gave the order to the clerk for a hazelnut grande latte to which the clerk replied, "We'll get that started for you right now."

"Get it started? WTF is to "get it started? That's the order! Do I need to be advised we are in "the start phase" or would a thank you work just as well? Holy Toledo Crap!

I'm starting to hear this lame phrase more and more in restaurants recently. Remember, he who controls the language controls the narrative.

We are losing it folks! There are clowns to the left of me and jokers to the right! Being trendy in speech just means that you really don't have anything to say.

Rant off.

Maybe this would be a better fit in the What's Your Deal section, but at any rate you might want to fix the clickbait title before the boss notices.

I don't get it either...

"That" refers to your order...

So they are saying "We'll get your order started right now."

What's the issue?

Let me see if I understand. You placed an order and she acknowledged the order by assuring you they would start to make it right away. Is that what has your knickers in a knot? Really? Good lord, I hope they don't tell you to please pull forward next time, you might need a word with manager if that happens Eek

Maybe they could REACH OUT to you. Just tell them it turns your crank.

I have to admit that I have never heard the expression turns your crank.

Most Americans speak slang English. BTW that is just AWESOME.

Let's Get It Started!

"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible."

I will almost bet that that's driven by Starbucks as part of their marketing scheme. It's likely meant to engender some level of urgency so the customer believes that they'll be receiving their grande whatever quickly.

I understand what you are saying, but I just can’t seem to summon any outrage about it. I guess I have enough other things to get spun up about that I just haven’t got any excited to get about such a piffle.
