I always preface emails to anyone from here with SigForum at minimum, and forum handle in the first line or two.

This is not referring to anyone whom I've communicated with many times, or even occasionally. This guy is someone I don't even know that contacted me for the very first time. No name, no forum handle. Just "I got your email while doing research. Can you help me with the gun's date and value. Click". Roll Eyes

You helped me out years ago with some info and a little advice but I'm pretty sure I started off with who I was and that I was on the Forum.
I can't imagine not starting off with an introduction.

I've had people email me about a firearm I have for sale, and they don't bother to tell me which one (if I have several) of if it was from my website, or a gunshow, or gunbroker,

no name either,,

'hey, will you take $1200 for the carbine you have for sale'
was the last one I got,

took a few emails back and forth to make sure were were talking about the same one,

and not just buyers either, I get the same from dealers,

an FFL will show up in an email, with no item number, description or persons name that paid for it,

one guy replied back, when I sent him a note asking what the FFL was for,, that it was for a transfer,

well no shit,, guess that was my fault for not asking who it was for,

and both of those were just last night,

another thing,, I ship with tracking, and either USPS or UPS sends you the tracking to your email I have in GB or Ebay,

yet I still get emails for folks saying 'I need a tracking number'
no item number, the name on the email is not always the same as what is in gunbroker or ebay,
no description, etc,

it takes time to look up something with damn near no info to go by

Hell, I put it as the subject line so it’s abundantly clear who I am and where I got your info. I think it’s rude not to have this information in there somewhere, and better to have it as the subject. I wouldn’t have done any different than the OP.

I forgot to add: Hurry up, please. I don't got all day.

"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." Viktor Frankl, Man's Search for Meaning, 1946.

I agree and I also, especially with people I may only “know” virtually / electronically, strive to make sure they are aware of who I am, where I know them from, etc. when opening a new communication with them.

There’s a mountain of presumption and / or narrow-focus out there with many folks.

It would be a good idea if they had a title similar to:

P228 inquiry. (SigForum)

And start off with:

I (SF username) found a bitchin' W. German P228 and wanted to know...

I would.
