I returned an item that I mistakenly bought 2 of. Paid by credit card. Amazon says my refund has been issued. I keep looking at my credit card and it's not there. Upon further review, Amazon issued me a gift card. Now, for me it doesn't really matter. I will spend the money eventually on Amazon. I also pay my credit card balance every month. But if I was someone that carries a balance I would be paying interest on something that was refunded. I don't like that. On principle I contacted them and made them refund it to my credit card. I'm kind of a bitch. These go to eleven.

They have an option to click when requesting a refund on how you want the refund. Sure you didn't slick the gift card one accidentally? Or better yet, the gift card one is the default one and you have to manually switch it IIRC. ________________________________________________

I'll have to check that out next time. I don't recall. These go to eleven.

This has been my experience also, but I always take the gift card as we'll be buying something else on Amazon in the near future. I don't carry balances on my credit cards, so I don't worry about that, but I do get rewards on the one I use at Amazon, so I'm getting rewards on something I didn't spend, so that's the other side of the coin.

Good point. If I get the refund on my card I lose the points. Hadn’t thought of that. These go to eleven.

But then you wouldn't earn points on this amount next time... It'll all work out in the end either way

Agreed. You have to watch which option you click when returning. I don’t think this one is amazons fault.

I've done a lot of Amazon returns. When you do a refund, the default is they'll issue the refund to your Amazon balance. You have to click on a hyperlink in the wording below the default button checked to get it back to your credit card. There's no button for the credit card as it is for the Amazon credit balance. I've also had vendors issue the credit but they don't flag the return as being complete. Then after a few months, they'll say they never got our return and charge you back. I've had to call Amazon customer service to reverse the charges. Someone already the reward points angle. If I know I'll make another purchase soon, I usually go ahead and take the Amazon credit balance. But it's really a wash. Because on your next purchase, the amount they charge your credit card and thus earn points is reduced by the amount in your Amazon credit balance. If you're carrying a balance on your credit card and paying interest, then taking the refund in Amazon credit is a losing proposition. "It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." Yup so I missed the part on where I want my refund. It's on me. I just think refunds should go to payment method. Anyhow not a big deal. The points, well it's like 3 so that doesn't matter either. I was in a bitchy mood yesterday. These go to eleven.

Never had a problem I'd check with them if it is unusually long. Could be a communication issue. Whatever it is it is better to talk to them rather than us.

Happened to me once. didn't care as I knew I'd use it at some point. Next return I noticed that I was given the option or gift card or CC refund.
