My poor step-mom has a cousin that can't stop fucking up her computers. He's a retired priest so he's never wrong. He keeps uninstalling things that I install (like secure browser Opera and superantispyware) and he installs garbage like chrome and sketchy games and stolen movies. I swear he's the human version of limewire.
I got called today to unfuck her computer but I just couldn't. Father Fuckup was hovering and pointing and I walked out.
She needs to have a hidden computer that he can't get to.
I'm going to have to bring her computer home so Friar Dingleberry can't molest my presence. What an asshole.

229DAKCan you set yourself up as the computer administrator and then password him out of any changes?

That's a fine idea. I'll have to lock out step-mom, too. She'll just give him the password because she's one of those people that can't offend anyone.

Just use teamviewer to remotely un-fuck with admin password when needed. My grandpa only gets user rights. I've fixed his computer from Japan & mexico more times than I can count.
Now if I can just get him to remember that it doesn't matter if his computer says his location is in another town (desktop, no gps & multiple ISP gateways). He's called his ISP & bitched 10+ times.

Does she administrate her own computer? No? Then she shouldn't have administrator access.

1967GoatIn our house I am the only one with the admin PW. Several years ago my wife installed a virus. Last year she asked me for the admin PW. I asked why. She said FedEx sent her an email and something needed to be installed so she can track a package. Uh, nope.
We've had far less problems since going this route.

^^^^ This. I manage an older friend's computer and finally had to lock it down to keep him from making it run better. Seperate admin account and I keep the password.

cparktdCould you make a disc image of it on an external drive that you keep once it was all straight... and then just do a complete reinstall from that as needed?

jhe888No. No one but me uses my PC.

YooperSigsAfter I got my porn loving teenage son off my computer, its been smooth sailing.
I am still getting email from hot chix that want to do me. And from folks deeply concerned about the size of my weener.

If your wife is from Canada living in Texas, then I swear you might be my BIL.

I love my wife, but she has no admin privileges on our machine. She came in the living room a couple of years ago saying she had a check coming via FedEx and they needed to install tracking software to set it up. I softly took the phone from her hand, told Momar to eat a dick and hung up.

HRKYou can give her a login name and password without admin rights, so nothing can be installed, deleted etc from her level. Setup the Admin and password separate, don't give it to her, while you might have to spend a little time fixing things or installing things for her, you won't have to deal with him doing things to the PC..
Setting up Remote access will make your life easier for dealing with little admin things.

Her house is less than 100 yards from mine so I figure it's better to not let her know about remote access or she'll call me at work.

GregYNo but apparently I have several families worth of those people as my coworkers.

You don't have to tell her, just dial up, fix it, call her back and ask her to reboot see if that fixes it. This also keeps you from dealing with Father Fuqitup...
