Strait versus straight.
Isle vs Aisle. Kroger has aisles. Gilligan lived on an isle.

I've said that for many many decades. I think it was in some long gone comic strip way back in the day.

This one irks me: reign in vs. rein in. Reign is to rule over, reins control a horse.

Jibe vs. jive. Jive is what you call Barbara Billingsley over to translate. Jibe is agreement or accordance with previously established facts.

The whole thing is just mindbottling.

Didn't Norm Crosby base his entire schtick on this sort of thing?

I taught my kids about these words early on. Fred Gwynne wrote a kid's book called "The King Who Rained" that was very helpful, and pretty funny as well.

Sat through an interview on Friday with a woman with 15 years of HR experience (interviewing for an HR role)...kept using the word "irregardless".

Like nails on a chalkboard. She used it 8 times.
