Strait versus straight.
Strait: passage, channel, canal.

Straight: not curved, as in a straight trigger, and too many other definitions to list, but not the “Straight” of Hormuz.

All of my co-workers are under 30, and they all say "supposably" and "for all intensive purposes". There's a few more like that, but those are the first that come to mind.

I've said that for many many decades. I think it was in some long gone comic strip way back in the day.

Give me a break, I don't have to brake on a straight road to the Strait of Hormuz.

Sure, the Straits of Mackinac got straight under the Mackinac Bridge right by Mackinaw City. Technically, since there is no elevation change between Lake Michigan and Lake Huron, they are one lake superior to Lake Superior.
