Pole to building is "free". Buried, I have to buy the wire. Direct burial wire for 100 amp service over 200 feet is seriously expensive.

Due to heat dissipation issues, direct burial wire is larger gauge than free air for the same rating.

Plus, of course, the cost of digging and back-filling the trench.

OTOH....when the winds blow, ice/snowstorms hit, and power goes out ...instead of scrambling, and trying to get techs out in the midst of widespread service outages....you'd be inside, all warm and toasty, sipping cocoa......

Might balance the cost thing a tad?

I think if you took a survey most people would volt for going with the pole option.

But you should probably take a breaker from these electric puns and focus on the project. Delaying too long could be terminal.
