I’ll try to make this short, but it’s a lot, lol. Our original modem was croaking, so we decided to find a backup internet just in case. (Glad we did, as it did croak during this) We’re in the country, so options limited. T-mobile in the area, broadband, decent speeds. Got it installed, and working. 2 IPads, my work laptop as I work from home. Yay. Worked well for maybe 2 days, then one IPad wouldn’t connect. Said password incorrect. Called T-Mobile, rep fixed something, got them both connected again. Happened again, day later. They did a firmware update, same thing about the password incorrect. Third time, my iPad stayed connected, and I had to connect laptop with cable so I could work. Could not connect any other devices to T -Mobile either wirelessly. Im still in the trial period, but had anybody experienced this with T mobile? I’ve never heard of a connection kicking you out and saying the password was incorrect, when it was fine before. There’s more, but this is long enough for a rant to start. Updated: Got the replacement TMobile unit, and set it up Wednesday. Fingers crossed, can disconnect and no issues reconnecting now. That was the main problem with the first one, if we left, we couldn’t get back. Hoping this continues well. Speed isn’t the fastest, but still over 100, so I’ll take it. Very nice reps helping me to get everything taken care of.This message has been edited. Last edited by: m1009,

I have T-mobile Home Internet and only had one minor issue. CS switched my modem to a different tower and back up in under 5 minutes. My T-mobile modem is connected to my PC by cat 5 cable and using the second modem port to my eero router. Never have any connection problems with either the modem wifi or the PC or with my mesh wifi. I suggest you have them replace the modem. As a aside, my daughter and son in law also connect automatically when they visit. Eero router positioned on top of the T-mobile modem... Thanks, Johnny 3eagles. The broadband fixed wireless is new to me, and the unit is supposed to be the newest version, too. It’s the gateway 5g, a white model. I’m just so frustrated, cause I HAD to have internet for work, and was just able to make it work, and worried it would kick me out like it did the IPads. I think ethernet connection keeps it linked in though. Another frustrating issue, I got the new modem for dsl, from the original provider, and got everything else hooked up just fine, except, the laptop won’t connect to the new modem. It’s like can’t get anything to work correctly anymore, always a hassle. I’ll call T mobile up tomorrow, see what they say on the password issue again. And then will try the new modem as well, maybe in my frustration I missed a step on the laptop.

I have had the 5g white thing for almost a year now. Only issue is to get the best signal, I would have to move the modem outside. Hoping they increase their coverage eventually. Right now, I have it as far as I can in the house to keep it inside with a good signal. It has decent speeds and runs with no issues. My daughter is streaming movies while my son and I can play on xbox live on our separate machines. It's not as fast as what the cable company gave me, but the cable company was $120 and kept me below 1TB of data each month. We go over that all the time. I have been paying Tmobile $35/month for unlimited so I can't complain. It does hurt our Xbox live connection because it won't do ip6 upnp but we got over not being the host anymore. Not minority enough!

Thanks again. It’s actually two issues am dealing with now. My thought was to have an option, between the broadband, and the dsl, so that if one failed, I would have the other as a fallback. I should be able to choose which I want to use, I think. Especially since on different inputs, one being through dsl, and one broadband. So, my laptop ‘sees’ the new network from the new modem, (CenturyLink by the way). But when I entered password, said can’t connect. Hope the laptop isn’t losing ability to connect wirelessly. Would that be a possibility? I plan on trying it again, and if that doesn’t work, will see if ethernet cable will let me hook it up for connection. But that will mean I have to move everything from where I have it now. Just want to have two options since I’m working 100% remote.

My Dell PC (4+ years old) had its WiFi connection quit several years ago. Dell warranty had a technician come out and replace the PC wifi antenna, which worked for a couple of months. It sees the networks but can't connect. That's why I use a Cat5 cable. If you're goin' through hell, keep on going. Don't slow down. If you're scared don't show it. Johnny 3eagles, that might be what happened then. My work laptop is maybe 3 yrs old, not sure if it was new when given to me. It was a replacement for my old one I had been using. The speakers for me to hear others on team meetings stopped working just a couple months ago, but I can use headphones, and they can hear me just fine even without headphones. So, maybe the wifi connection gave up too. It connected before, no problems until the old modem gave up. Now it can’t see the wifi. And I made sure it’s on. They hate giving out new laptops by the way. I’ll probably have to limp it along until something else gives out. Maybe I can retire by then, lol. Hoping for late next year at the earliest.

Update: T Mobile sending out a new unit for us. And managed to get laptop connected to the new modem from Century link. So at least that will work, I have two options for work then. Will see what happens after we get the new unit from T-Mobile, hopefully it will be better.

m1009, do those TMO cell modems have wired (Ethernet) connections as well? If so: I'd turn off the built-in WiFi (if you can) and go wired to a proper WiFi Access Point. Use that for your WiFi, rather then the TMO cell modem's built-in WiFi. The WiFi APs built into ISP modems are often crap. "America is at that awkward stage. There are two ethernet ports. I've had mine since May and it's worked great so far.

Can't help you with T-Mobile but I have a similar modem from Straight Talk. Uses the Verizon network, works just fine. $45 / month, speed test shows right around 100 MB. הרחפת שלי מלאה בצלופחים

Well, this is what happened. We decided to connect century link via Ethernet to work laptop. Suddenly it saw the ethernet naturally, and also saw the wifi connection. I disconnected the cable, restarted the laptop, and it reconnected quickly to century link wirelessly. Weird. But ok, did it again. Restarted it, picked my choice of century link, and it connected no issues. Decided to try T mobile wirelessly, and no go. Plugged in the cable, and it connected just fine. So, now that I did have my option working, called T Mobile again. Explained to rep, each time I left the network say, leaving the house, I could not reconnect when back home with the iPads. Told her I had to connect with ethernet for laptop. She said they’d never heard of that, and is sending me a new unit, but I can still use this one until we get the new one. So, T-Mobile is not a wired system, it is a fixed wireless system. All I did was plug it in, set up app, and enter password on everything. Should work wirelessly through our home with our devices once network added. And should reconnect immediately when coming back in range of the signal since we have the password. Centurylink is wired, as it goes through our phone lines, with a dsl cable. But connects devices wirelessly in our home range. So, different system, can have both active on different devices at the same time as not using the same inputs. So, we can have iPads on CenturyLink, and my work laptop on T-Mobile for example. At least, that is what I was informed of. And it did work, as our iPads were on Century link, and I was connected to T-mobile even though it was with the ethernet cable from the unit to laptop. Just would be nice to not have to connect with a cable, and, if CenturyLink goes down, as it does have a habit lately, I could then reconnect iPads to T-Mobile for home use. That was the main issue with T-Mobile, if hubby left for work, and came back, he couldn’t connect back to T-mobile at all. And we didn’t have the new modem from CenturyLink at the time, so it was the only internet connection we had. Luckily, my iPad had stayed on it, and laptop was connected so I was able to work.

V-Tail, I tried to see if Verizon was available in our area, and nope. Tried Mercury, and no good with them either. T-Mobile is $50 a Month, and speed is usually around 130-192 so that is good. Just want the darn unit to connect if we need it.

Well, that was my next option to try, and I posted that we did the ethernet, and laptop suddenly ‘saw’ the connection, even the wifi one. The trouble with ethernet, is no way to hook up an iPad that way. And hubby was without internet other than using his cell plan for 4 days until we got CenturyLink modem in and hooked up. Fingers crossed, it will all work once the new unit from T-Mobile shows up, that the password error will stop and it will be effective for whatever we want on that network.

Just because something is legal to do doesn't mean it is the smart thing to do. |
I've had T-Mobil internet for about 5 years with very little problem. The first modem crapped out about a year ago and the shipped me a new one. I have a workshop in my barn but could never connect with my home modem out in the workshop. This new modem has a strong enough signal that I can connect now. Overall I'll admit the T-Mobile speed isn't the greatest but It works for me. Integrity is doing the right thing, even when nobody is looking.
