Not ribs.

My prostate cancer doc has a small stand-alone building in the old (historic) area of Apopka, FL. The next-door building is a little mom and pop bakery and home-made candy shop.

The last time that I was at the doctor's office, I stopped into the bakery to look around. On the counter, they had boxes of candy, made of bacon strips that had a coating made of maple syrup. I bought a small box to try. "Pleasuring myself" is a gross understatement! That maple bacon candy is some of the best tasting stuff that has ever passed between my lips.

I'm not sure how they make it, but my guess is that they marinate the bacon in maple syrup, then bake it in an oven.

That's near the end of the process.

A guy I heard in a bar who stated that "It's a well known fact, that such delectable delicacy begins with folks poking holes in young maple saplings trunks, wrapping the trees with young suckling pigs like bandages, then feeding the piglets honey and apples until both trees and pigs are fully grown and sufficiently saturated with that sweetness."

At least that's how I think I remember it.

Not really.

Look: The email protocol is fuller of holes than Swiss cheese. I could pick any email address in an SF member's profile and send them an email that would appear to have come from themselves in a New York heartbeat. It's trivial to do.

Good luck with that. Better people than me have tried to stop it, and I've been in the industry since before there was an Internet.

It will only be stopped when the email protocol is tightened-up. That's never going to happen because there are far too many vested interests that profit from it being as broken as it is, and that's the plain truth.

Hint: Many of the people with whom I used to work in the email anti-spam effort are now working for...

wait for it...

Email marketers. Bulk emailers. Or, as some of us like to call them: Spammers for hire.

The very same mechanisms that allow for the kinds of things described here also benefit the "legitimate" bulk email industry.
I can assure you , it won't happen again . I took it seriously , even though you think it was nothing .Neither of those email accounts exist anymore . Every password I have for anything was changed from a different computer . I even got a new laptop since the old one was suspect . Really I just wanted a new one and that was a good excuse . I know a real hacker can do anything they want but I'm too small of a fish to go after at this point . Too much work for zero benefit .

I got one of these, and it was even headlined with the password they had stolen. Interestingly, I have unique passwords/email address combinations for every site, and this one traced back to a combination that was in play at United almost a decade ago, and which I knew had been compromised a few years ago by a publicized breach (and long-since had changed) I knew both that the claim was false and that there was zero risk from their having that login/password combo.

Actually got it a couple times, from different 'senders'. Poorly worded, extorting for Bitcoins.

Maybe there's a cottage industry, somewhere in one of the Elbonias, where they bundle up and sell the text of this email along with stolen password/emails to budding scam artists. "Hey, with this scam kit, you can push out 100,000 emails and hope that one idiot will fall for it, which will more than pay for the price of the kit"
