Tried half dozen varieties
all similar state.

Yeah, particularly annoying because they’re well over $5 a box now.

I’d wager it’s been more than a few years now. Way too delicate. Which is a shame because it is still a tasty cracker.

And lately I've found that they have less taste, less snap and less salt than those from back when.

Yes they are not like the ones in our past memories.. Maybe our taste buds have changed...... Now I just go with the store brand and or generic brands unless for something special then need the big name brand. ........................................ drill sgt.

I’ve completely abandoned saltines. Nowadays my crackers are exclusively:

Triscuits – “Smoked Gouda” is my favorite, but I like several other varieties, including “Cracked Pepper and Olive Oil”, “Dill, Sea Salt & Olive Oil”, “Avocado, Cilantro & Lime”, “Original”.

Keebler Townhouse FlipSides. A cracker-pretzel hybrid: cracker shape, pretzel-like flavor. Very crisp and savory (umami is the trendy term). A fairly high percentage of broken crackers, but I tolerate that because they’re so tasty and crispy.

I mostly eat crackers with a slab of cheese on them, but Cheez-Its are my favorite croutons.

P. S. For those that do like saltines, I suggest Kellogg’s Club (Original) as a higher quality alternative. I find them a bit too sweet myself.

All of these are commonly available in my grocery stores.

I used to like saltines, but they were supposed to be salt on the saltines.

When they took the salt off of 'em, it felt like I was chewing cardboard and flower.

We haven't had Nabisco Saltines in years. As far as crackers, we eat Triscuits, Sociables. But this one, we have been eating for the last 6 years, a product from the Philippines, and much better than saltines. Kinda pricey now, it used to be 6 bucks but now double, we buy them from H-Mart. And not once did we find a broken cracker.

Oh yes, I loves SkyFlakes. And the boxes make excellent tubs for small parts.

As to the cracker damage. Several years ago Keebler had there own trucks doing deliveries. They were purchased by Kellogg’s and the Keebler man eliminated. Pretty sure they now come through the store distribution system. Which is a long winded way to say nobody cares about them till you open the package. They’ll be loaded on a pallet of mixed goods where they aren’t supported properly.

I’m pretty sure there is still a Nabisco truck, Mondele now days.

appreciate the various names mentioned, many of them I've never sampled. Although I'm familiar with triscuits....a sort of pocket-carry version of the holy Shredded Wheat, my particular favorite...I get the same beneficial effects from both of them.

Saltines are good, but I have been buying the Export crackers lately in the green round metal container.

Sky Flakes are cracker cocaine. My wife brings them home when she returns from visiting the Philippines. We also have a local Pinoy store here. Their Sky Flakes are made in Japan though and are good, but not as good as Philippine made.

My box of SkyFlakes arrived a couple of days ago (from Amazon), and they’re danged good! Notably, they’re not sweet, as too many cracker brands are nowadays. The crackers are rather like saltines, but better.

A 1.76 lb. box contains 32 sealed metalized mylar packets that keep the crackers perfectly fresh. Each packet has three “flakes”, and each flake can be cleanly broken into three crackers, each about 2-1/4” x 1-1/4”.

Opening the sturdy plastic box can be a bit tricky the first time. Here’s how to do it: One corner of the box has a breakable segment. I slid the blade of my pocket knife under it and twisted to pop it off. Then you can put thumb or finger into the resulting gap to lift the lid. So far, I’ve not found even one broken cracker.

One other tip: break those two red handles off the box immediately. They’re a damned nuisance.

I wonder which company is going to buy out SkyFlakes. I long expected Frito-Lay to buy out Dot’s Pretzels, but Hershey got ‘em instead.

I noticed that San Diego has an H-Mart location. Maybe give them a call or visit to see if they have SkyFlakes in stock.

Now that it’s mentioned, I do remember saltines in the tin cans. I’d be surprised to find out that the tins made it past the late 70’s

Are the sky flakes similar to Club crackers?

Thanks oddball, About five miles away, but not on my usual routes. Amazon delivery is so handy, and SkyFlakes packaging is good enough to thwart Amazon handling.
