I thought that perhaps you were joking about this, and have found that you are, in fact, not. That’s hilarious! My son-in-law wants a Tesla and I’ve not heard him mention this feature. I have updated him haha! Smile

It is absolutely hilarious. And it is not just one fart sound, it is a whole series of sounds from short dry ones to long wet ones.

And just to show how infantile I am what makes it really cool is to do this remotely using the app, while watching the car's cameras remotely on the app. So you can wait until some is just walking by the car and let one rip. And it is Freaking hilarious.

I just bought a new car I’ve been saving for, for 4 years. Very limited trim, on top of the car being limited, so a double down. Placed a deposit down on it before the car was even press released. I guess triple down as this was the first model year, 2023, so the fuckerizement was on full display all year. 5k to 20k ADM everywhere, late to the dance people with money falling out of their pockets to be first, and all the suckers. Total shit show. The dealer where I placed my deposit only got one all year of the limited trim. And it went to the only person in front of me on the list. They felt bad and gave me a very rare custom order for 2024 and unfortunately the color I wanted in the limited trim isn’t being made for 2024 so I had to take a color choice that was certainly not my first choice but the color for next year is the most desirable to the market of buyers. I won’t sell it barring financial ruination from unemployment or medical conditions forcing it to be sold so my intent was to still keep my eye out for what I wanted in the first place.

Local dealer puts an ad up for the exact trim/color, but it’s used. Did give me a chance to test drive it. Ad said 350 miles, and I get there and it’s 1150. So I immediately pivot to let’s drive it. I had driven one before but it was new and I’m not going to push a new car. This one, well the motor is past break in so lets roll. Very impressed with it they start in with games immediately after. They had it online for what a new one would cost but they tell me the ad is wrong and it should be listed for 3k more. I’m laughing at that when they put the “sheet” in front of me. Not only do they want 3k more than a new one, they are adding a bullshit $3995 package to it. He says thirty nine ninety five and I’m fucking with him when I reply back “Oh $39.95 as in thirty dollars and ninety five cents” and he gets abrupt points to the sheet with $3995 listed. But get this, there is a 2nd dealer package on there for $2995. So 7k on top of the 3k = 10k over what a new one would cost. Dude I took the pen out of his hand strike though both of those packages and wrote “nope” next to it. Hahahaha. At this point I’m really enjoying this. The test drive the car had no gas and for the test drive hell, I’ll fill the fucker up for you. Salesman refused and wouldn’t let me do it so he paid. I said ok man, but you do realize that I might not buy this thing right? He put like $5 or $10 in the thing. Whatever. I’m not going to negotiate on your numbers I tell him so I don’t give a flying fuck about your sheet etc. No. I offer what the new one would cost but out the door. They can suck it. He gets pissed and says man you aren’t even offering a fair deal. I say huh? You just tried to jack me with 7k in bullshit dealer packages dude. This is not my first rodeo. I’ve been doing car deals longer than you’ve been alive. That is a fair price. Your shit is used. Probably bought at auction, and when I said that he turned his head as yep, as I later found out by his boss, it was bought at auction in Iowa. That’s what these crooks are doing with these cars. If their management states “MSRP only” they’ll go drive it 50 miles, say it’s used, and have their used car department sell it for 10k, or 20k over, or they’ll take it to auction to get every last cent they can get and who gets fucked over? The enthusiast or buyer. Trying to rig the game on all of them too. I said no to all their bullshit and walked like I’ve done 100 times or more in my life. You go in there with what you want to pay or what is fair, and if they don’t do it, get up and leave. Try to fuck me on trade in, I’m out. Try to fuck me on the new car price, I’m out. Try to fuck me around on the finance rate, I’m out. I once had a GM Certificate and was buying a Vette, the track guys option. Z51 package and that’s it. Had it all lined up with the GM certificate to get a deal on it, as it was ordered for me. We had already agreed on my trade in, % rate, all of it. All pre done. But when I get there they increased the cost of the vehicle and denied my GM cert, dropped the value on my car, and raised the % rate. I said no to all and hell no and I need my car back. Salesman starts doing fucktwit things and actually tells me “It’s too late for that, your car is already with our used car department getting cleaned and processed for sale” I smiled at that guy and said I haven’t signed a single thing dipshit. If my fucking car isn’t out in front of your office in 60 seconds, and I mean in the same pristine condition I handed it over to you, I’m calling the PD and y’all can deal with LE as you’re committing a felony theft, bitch. You should have seen his fat ass with his bitch tits move. He went flying and my car was pulled around by a porter pronto. Never let them fuck you around.

So the base model, I had 10 options to buy that thing in every different color. The limited trim I had one offer all year for MSRP and no ADM but it wasn’t the color I wanted. So I was working with that dealer in Louisiana to trade their allocation to another dealer less than 60 miles from them that had my color. Even swap. The cars were not even on the truck yet. The salesman was a good ol’ Louisiana boy who tried to get me to just purchase theirs but he was honest and said Ok, let me talk to my boss and that dealership and this shouldn’t be an issue. While he’s working on that someone else came through and offered to buy it with no trading like I was attempting, etc. He called and told me the situation and I said sell it. No harm, no foul. Dude was honest with me the whole time. Yeah yeah in demand limited, blah I get it. So the last one allocated for this model year, exact color/trim is allocated to the dealer where my rural land is. Immediately they are pushing for 5k over sticker because I’m “out of state” and I just said no. Explained myself a bit. Hey this is a big deal, it’s for my 50th birthday. Been saving for it for 4 years, following the car overseas for years. We were supposed to get the two door and instead we get the 4 door. 4 years of this. And no I’m not out of state I own land there and pay taxes on that land so while yes I’m living in TX now, you will be future local dealer. “Meet us in the middle” and I refused. Well FF to when it comes in on the truck. I get a text with a pic of it on the 18 wheeler. This is at 6pm on a Friday night a few weeks ago. I’m not in the mood for the back and forth so I take a pic of my DL that proves birthdate, 50 is a few weeks away. Then I sent them the county database URL and told them to punch my name in and you’ll see my 2 parcels of land. Minor back and forth and I get a text “car is yours”. The really great thing is they did what I said. Don’t wash it, leave the plastic on it, don’t drill the plates, don’t do anything to it except what is 100% necessary for delivery by law. They put it away and I had to take a prop aircraft up there as no rental cars available from any rental car co. In my entire area. What a PITA. I had to overnight some track tape, which is temporary paint protection film and $110 flight and a $132 hotel room. I figured if I was going up there I wanted to go check my land, look at the pad sites possible, etc. About $300 to go up there and get it including food and paying my vet to kennel the k9. Great thing was their doc rate was so much cheaper than TX dealers. Dealers here will have $500 in doc fees. Theirs was a simple $129. Awesome. My CU financed it so while at the dealer I wrote two large checks from both of my accounts and only had to sign the sales sheet. 1 sheet of paper and that’s it.

The night after I got it home I removed all the track tape off. Laborious process as you don’t want to take paint with it. I put it on there to protect it from rock chips the drive home. I washed it, put it away. The very next day I drove it back up to the local thieves at my local dealer. Found the exact salesman, walked him out to the car and said check out my new ride. LOL. Purchased for MSRP, 3k cheaper than you wanted for your used shit. I wanted to rub their noses in it and did. 3rd time I’ve had to do that. In reality I was going up there to get an oil filter for it so I can change the oil myself right after break in so might as well rub their nose in shit while I’m at it. They are the convenient option for service and any TSB’s or warranty stuff and while the service is a separate deal, they’ll never a see a dime of my money. Tried to work with them 2 different times, first on a deposit then a used car and their shenanigans were on full display each time.

The Tesla buying method is spreading. Not from us, but the millennials and gen z. They don’t know how to negotiate so have cried for years and everyone is running around wanting Tesla’s sale model and it’s spreading. If you need a vehicle, stick to your guns. It’s inconvenient but you may need to buy out of state or at least out of your area. Or find a MSRP dealer if buying new. Used, is going to be a shit show for a while yet. Covid, supply chains, etc. But the good news is with the % rates being what they are, all the YOLO Covid buyers already bought shit (bored people who when stores and restaurants were closed they pivoted to buying new vehicles, remodeling their homes, etc, because they cannot live without blowing all their $), well the used market is coming back around again, and these stealers will have to deal. Ford and others EV vehicles are moving to the same Tesla model so stealers will be forced to change. It’s coming. 6MT’s will be gone in the next few years so if you want one before they are gone for good, better do some eval work and be prepared to hustle. I know if I can score a car where there are only 400 and some change in the country you can buy any vehicle out there sans a Z06 or something with some patience and a little bit of work. Honest dealers are out there it’s just a lot of work to find them and then waiting around for them to get what you want as most mfr’s still subscribe to this allocation system vs. custom ordering.

Unless I was absolutely in love with that car I would have walked on principle.

It used to be an unwritten rule that dealership employees were sold cars at a set price over true cost whether it be new or used.

No more, dealership employees are just as likely to get screwed as the general public today. Last time I attempted to buy a used car from one of the dealerships I worked at turned into that exact trainwreck. It culminated with me tossing the keys into the used car managers trash can with several choice words.

Seems the A/C didn’t work despite it being a CPO car, I only found out as the day I was to take possession the fall chill was gone for a couple of days. When the salesman and I went to tell his manager his reply was “That’s your problem, you bought it as-is without buying an extended warranty.”

My reply was “No, it’s your ******* problem, I haven’t signed the papers yet” as I tossed the keys.

I do not understand this. If it's a CPO, why don't they have to fix it on their nickel?

I've seen a couple driving around, congrats on snagging one in the spec you wanted.
Look forward to hopefully read some of your impressions of it as you put miles on it.

There seems to still be a shortage of good used cars out there and I'm wondering if the "normal" is never coming back.

There is a CarMax type place we drove past this weekend that used to be called CarSense. Seems like they were bought out and are now called CarShop. They sell only 1-3 year old used cars with the retail pricing model and I've bought a number of cars from them when it was CarSense.

You'd go onto their lot and there would be hundreds if not several thousand vehicles to choose from as far as the eye can see.

We drove past and I was shocked to see that they had MAYBE 30-40 cars all carefully spaced out and arranged so you could see them from the road and gave the impression of a full lot of cars but upon a further look it was virtually empty behind them.

WTF is going on?

We went car shopping last weekend because my wife's 2022 Hyundai Pallisade was totaled in an accident. This time she wanted the Pallisade's twin, the Kia Telluride. In addition to the nonsense dealer add ons, several places had "market adjustments" added to the msrp. Anywhere from $1k to a whopping $5k.
Out of the entire DFW metroplex, I found two dealerships that had no add ons or bullshit markups.
It's bad enough to pay the full msrp, but it's absolutely insane that people pay thousands of dollars for crap that doesn't add a dollar to the value of the vehicle.

If you buy it, and bring it back, it's a warranty claim. Dealership service department gets a reimbursement from the manufacturer for warranty claims.

If you haven't bought it yet, then any repairs needed to make a used car sale-ready falls on the dealership. The cost of certifying a car into CPO status falls on the dealership.

Dealerships will cherry pick likely candidates for CPO status from their lease return fleet (low miles, desirable trim and model combinations), then have to pay their tech at shop rates to certify the vehicle. It's supposed to be a fairly lengthy process that takes a couple of hours--and not all vehicles will pass, so the dealership is paying for a bunch of tech hours (and potentially some minor repairs) to bring the car to CPO status. If dealership goes through this process faithfully, then the manufacturer grants the dealership the right to sell the car as CPO, and the manufacturer backs the CPO warranty. Dealership carries the cost of certifying, and gets a price bump for the vehicle. Manufacturer keeps more of their cars on the road and increase customer satisfaction with the brand, makes a little money off of manufacturer backed financing, and reduces warranty claims overall by separating the wheat from the chaff. Most cars that make it back on trade-in or lease return and don't go through CPO end up being sold at auction.

That is some scumbag type crap there. So they knowingly listed it for sale as a “certified” preowned car even though they knew it had busted AC?

I’d be reporting this dealer to corporate and then steer well clear of them in the future.

my mom told me this story

my dad was looking for a new truck, when they got to the Nissan dealership they were going out to look at what they had on the lot, my mom held the salesman back a little behind my dad (he was nearly deaf) and told the dude "when he asked for price, just give him a price, don't ask him how much can he afford a month or he will walk out on you, just like he did with the last three dealerships we went to". Mom told him, this because she was tired of looking at trucks.

side note -- after he bought it, he called me "just to let you know I'm spending your inheritance money",

thanks dad!
