Thank you, sigfreund. One of my biggest pet peeves. Why do seemingly educated people use that garbage expression instead of the correct one is puzzling to me. If you’re doing it because you think it’s funny, I’ll let you in on a secret. It ain’t funny. It’s stupid.

My biggest pet peeve, as far as improper English use is concerned, is fitment, when referring to fitting of parts.

Not to derail the thread too much, but mine is "cordage". Want me to not watch your video? Say the word cordage. Go ahead...say it. Mad

It's called rope, 550 cord, or string...maybe even twine.

True story...Early grade school we had a pop grammar quiz. Write one or two sentences about something you were supposed to do but didn't.

"I spilled water on the floor and Mom slipped and almost fell. I shoulda cleaned the water up."

Miss O'Brien, "It is should have young man; should h-a-v-e."

"C'mon, Miss Obrien. There's no "V" in shoulda."

I did not get an "A"

I made the mistake of correcting a friend on this one after about a decade of him using “of” instead of “have.” He took offense, said some angry shit.

For the next ten years and he more, he has continued to insist on using “of.”

Baffling.

A traveler arrived at Logan airport in Boston. He was anxious to try the fish that he had heard so much about, so he got into a taxi and said, “Take me some place where I can get scrod.”

The driver, who was a Harvard English major working part time to earn tuition money, replied, “I have had that request a few times, but never in the past pluperfect subjunctive.”
