I got a renewal notice in the mail and a hefty hike in coming insurance rate. So, I phoned my local agent and was told the increase is due to the increase cost of car parts for my model. Hey, I told her, it's due to the plastic crap at both ends of the car due to an increase in fuel mileage mandated by the Feds. I remember when cars had real steel bumpers and not plastic crap that broke if you looked at it wrong. So, now I'm looking at rates from other companies. BTW, I have State Farm, which maintains the stadium where the super bowel will be played. Hmmmm. ********* "Some people are alive today because it's against the law to kill them".

Thank you Very little |
Shop it every year, or at least every other, rates change, companies experience losses in different areas, your car might be in a high loss rating for State Farm, not so for someone else. If your home is with State Farm be sure to shop it with the other carriers, most offer discounts for having home and auto with them...

I've had Amica for Home and Auto for over 15 years. They're direct to the consumer so No Agents, and therefore NO middleman to potentially drive up the cost. I've always received excellent customer service, whether I was adding/changing coverage or filing/processing a claim. I recommend them highly and suggest getting a quote... I posted the following in a thread on a similar subject back in November 2022:

Just shopped ours last month. Switched from Safeco to Progressive, and changed independent agents, same coverage for about $700 less/yr. Then replaced my car & ended up back where I was with Safeco, but with an 8 year newer car & having to add collision coverage to it. The Enemy's gate is down.

I've been using AMICA for a few years now. Due to a homeowners claim and a recent auto claim, I can say for sure based on my experience; their customer service is excellent.

Car insurance or any type of insurance is a legalized form of gambling.... You pays your money to them in hopes that if you have to file a claim that they will be there and cover you damages........ and they (insurance company) (if they can) will sometimes if possible to either pay out as little as possible or outright deny the claim.. Them we might have to bring in the lawyers to collect what we payed for.... Again another form of Legalized gambling.. ...................... drill sgt.

We just got a hefty increase from Liberty Mutual, both auto and homeowners. I shopped USAA and they were higher. ________________________________ "Nature scares me" a quote by my friend Bob after a rough day at sea.

I have zero loyalty to any insurance company. My Ex is an insurance agent with over 30 years of experience with State Farm and Farmers. She says you should shop around regularly for insurance like you would for any expensive product. Good news: $40 a month cheaper for the same coverage on my new Jeep after I traded in my Challenger. I have an independent agent. I was with MetLife Home and Auto. Couple years ago the home and auto brought out by Farmers. My Agent called and said don't even open the envelope. Went from $5K to over $7K. Farmer's wanted out of the policies from MetLife. I tried to price Amica but they were coming in just under $7k. The agents did their job and moved to Travelers for $5k. Every year he does shop me around. But I don't hop for 50-100 bucks.

My USAA coverage went up for the first time in years. $40/yr. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ "Yidn, shreibt un fershreibt" "The Nazis entered this war under the rather childish delusion that they were going to bomb everyone else, and nobody was going to bomb them. I use an independent agent, who shops the market for me. She will even tell me to check certain companies that do not do business with agents, if she knows it's a good company and might save me some $$$. She moved our auto insurance from Flo at Progressive, to Travelers, and saved me more than $1,300 / year (family policy, four vehicles). Homeowners was going to be a $700.00 annual increase last month, she said that she could hold the line with a different company at no increase, but she did not like the company in terms of their crappy claim processing, so we wound up going with KIN on our own -- they do not write with agents, direct sales only. That saved a bunch. הרחפת שלי מלאה בצלופחים

I looked into Kin homeowners insurance. It was recommended by my neighbor. I read through their financials, posted on their web site, and it looks like they are a very tiny company that just got started about five years ago. It might be good coverage, but their tiny size makes me a bit nervous. We don’t have many HO insurance options here in Florida, unfortunately. But this thread is about car insurance. Definitely shop around. You should not be blindly loyal to an insurance company. They don’t care about you. _________________________ 2nd Amendment Defender The Second Amendment is not about hunting or sport shooting.

Man I loathe insurance companies. I should shop around some but it’s such a whip. I need to find an independent dude like y’all mentioned. "Attack life, it's going to kill you anyway." Steve McQueen...

I used Nationwide for years for my car and truck and the cost kept increasing. The last renewal bill was for $2,100 for a year. I have progressive for motorcycles and when renewing that on line the lady asked if she could quote auto for me? I said sure, gave her the VIN's and coverage I have. She said "we're searching now it'll just be a minute or so, see we don't underwrite auto insurance directly rather we act as an agent shopping the market for the best rate." "OK it looks like $1,488 per year". I said "great sign me up, BTW who's it through?" She said "Nationwide". No car is as much fun to drive, as any motorcycle is to ride.

I’ve been with State Farm since I started driving at age 16 in 1989 with a 4 year break for the Army, so 30 years now I guess. Just checked my premiums and no increases for me thankfully, I guess I get a long term member discount. Like other members have stated here, shopping around can help a lot. I’ve tried that and every couple of years I go out and look around and no one can come close to what I’ve already got so I just stick with State Farm. My only gripe is State Farm can be dicks about glass claims like when you get a windshield crack or chip, and we do get them quite often around here with our dirty, poorly maintained roads. State Farm is the only insurance company that I know of that makes you pay the entire thing out of pocket and will not cover it.

I've been with Farmers for a while. Mrs. Lee's latest car purchase was going to cause a huge rate hike. I told my Farmers agent we were gonna shop. He said, "Hey, let me run you guys through MetLife's quoting software just to see." It was a ginormous savings, well over $1500/yr cheaper by moving cars and homeowners over to their rebranded MetLife.

Isn’t it funny how all the insurance companies that have a million fancy commercials on TV also have the highest rates? We Are Farmers Ba Ba Dum Dum Dum

I try to explain that to my life insurance customers and prospects, who always say, "What about that $9.95/mo I always see on tv?" I tell them that's the most expensive life insurance they can buy and that those commercials ain't free. IME, Farmers starts off with pretty attractive premiums to reel you in. Then they raise them every six mos. If you don't shop, then that's free money for them. In AZ the issue is frequent glass claims, which can't raise your rates, but they do count as claims on your record. So that makes it hard to find a better deal, even with Farmers raising their rates.
