Rifle is overdue at my FFL. No tracking updates on USPS.COM for 3 days.

Can't report it on the USPS website because it doesn't fall within their parameters of a missing package.

I'm going to contact the mailer on Monday and let them file a report.

Might be transported via rail and packages can go dark for days.

What method of shipping was used?

I shipped a rifle via FFL to FFL using USPS 2nd Day to an adjacent state earlier this year. Tracking stopped on the second day in a state that was not a direct route to the destination. The P.O. said it went to a hub. After a week with no tracking updates I contacted them again. I was told covid issues were causing backups at the hub and to be patient and that it would be scanned next at the time of delivery. It arrived at the buyer's FFL two weeks later with only the delivery scan in the process.

Best of luck with yours.

I suggest letting the matter age a few days to see if it self-corrects.

IME, USPS may not give you the real-time tracking folks seem to want, but they are reliable.

I've not lost a gun shipped USPS.

The one case where there was issue, they worked hard to resolve it the same day.

I had this happen and it went "missing" for a week. Got ahold of a postal inspector who was able to get things sorted quickly and was VERY helpful; he insisted I store his number and call him in the future if any firearms got held up in transit again. They take it very seriously.

Don’t give up yet, could easily show up. I’d give it a bit longer.

There is a good reason I stop buying/selling anything out of state around this time of the year.

3 days isn't really a cause for panic yet, at least as far as USPS goes. I've had an firearms receiver go AWOL for almost 2 weeks before it magically resurfaced again.

Yep I guess its too much to pay for a service (express) and expect them to deliver as contracted.

USPS doesn’t update their tracking worth a shit. For me, it always goes from “item shipped!” to “parcel left in mailbox/at front door” with no updates in between. Been that way at least a year.

related, but not a firearm

I mailed 3 identical packages (same weight , all 3 a Med Flat Rate box)
one to Abq, NM
one to Reno NV area
one to SLC Utah

all 3 went in the local (my zip code) PO last Friday night, dropped them off in the APC,

the Abq arrived yesterday (fast)
the Reno was at the distro center in Las Vegas,
and the SLC package was leaving PR,, as in Puerto Rico,

scanned at the post office, never scanned at the RVA distro center, (did learn they do divert to other hubs sometimes, usually in SW VA)

Yes, any update on the rifle yet?

My worst experience was I ordered some car parts from a business 35 minutes away and they shipped it USPS Priority. It took 11 days and 3 states before it made it to me.

Next order I drove there and waited for them to bring it out to me. They forgot I was there. After that, I stopped ordering from them.

Not minority enough!

One thing my FFL recommends; make sure the item is scanned in at the counter, not the automated kiosks for anything shipped USPS. Sometimes, they'll take the box over the counter and NOT scan; it gets processed and the scans along the way are in the system but not necessarily shown in the tracking on the website.

I had a Sig M400 Tread upper arrive with the buyer BEFORE tracking even showed it was accepted on my end. Needless to say, the buyer would have been very upset, thinking he got swindled had we not done business before and had I not sent him a pic of it boxed up with the label and geo-tag at the post office (all good faith efforts on my end).

It disappeared for 3 days. Then suddenly was scanned attempted at 6:30am. Then delivered about 4 hours later.
