I have a half case of Winchester 380 from years ago I decided to use up. The box says FMJ. In fact, they are TMJ, which really won’t function in a 380 pistol. FTF every 3rd rd. Oh well. May have to find a 380 revolver.

I understand TMJ to mean "total metal jacket." All that does is fully enclose the base of the bullet (full metal jacket is rolled over the edges and leaves the base exposed). I don't see what that has to do with cycling. Is the bullet shape different?

They are truncated metal jacket. Aka truncated cone.

Interesting. I don't recall ever seeing TC .380 ammo. I've only ever used RN in my P230. I'm guessing they are hanging up on the feed ramp, right? What pistol are you shooting? ________________________________________ -- Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. OK, that explains it. Some guns don't like to feed this bullet shape. I always look for a round-nose bullet shape even with hollow-points. The latest & greatest bullets in the world do no good hung up on a feed ramp.

Winchester Q4206 95gr truncated cone 380ACP ammo works great in my Sig P238 Certifiable member of the gun toting, septuagenarian, bucket list workin', crazed retiree, bald is beautiful club! USN (RET), COTEP #192

Beretta 84. My guess is the staggered double stack mag didn't help either. The only guns I've used this bullet shape in have been 1911's in 45ACP. We called them semi-wadcutters in the day. Even then, I had to gently polish the feed ramp and use a teflon based lubricant. Oh well, I can console myself that they were cheap. I don't know what they cost, but they're about 20 years old and I am notoriously cheap.

Maybe I'll borrow my neighbors 238 and give it a whirl.

To use them up in this pistol, try putting one drop of oil on the junction of bullet and case mouth, on the top cartridge of each magazine before chambering. ____________________

I’ve had failures to feed with that flat nose Winchester .380 in my LCP. I decided it’s a crummy design.

Couple years ago I bought a box of WWB .32acp for my pre-WWII PPK, just to have something to feed it, and they were also Truncated Cone, unlike the round-nose they used to sell. The box wasn't marked flat-nose, either. I haven't had a reason to take it to the range, so I don't know if it will function, but I'm not happy with Winchester, either. -------------------------- Every normal man must be tempted, at times, to spit on his hands, hoist the black flag, and begin slitting throats. -- H L Mencken I always prefer reality when I can figure out what it is. -- JALLEN 10/18/18

Seems like they're now producing dirty, underpowered ammo at higher prices than their competitors. Not a good business model. At least in 9mm, I haven't bought any in other calibers recently.

I understand this rant. My Taurus TCP is finicky about bullet shape as well, albeit in the opposite direction. Ball or any other ammo with a wide, round radius will lock the slide back after firing. Ammo with a narrow or slanted profile feeds perfectly. I usually stick with Gold Dots for defensive pistol ammo, but this particular pistol gets Hornady Critical Defense. "The people hate the lizards and the lizards rule the people." "Odd," said Arthur, "I thought you said it was a democracy." "I did," said Ford, "it is." "So," said Arthur, hoping he wasn't sounding ridiculously obtuse, "why don't the people get rid of the lizards?" "It honestly doesn't occur to them. They've all got the vote, so they all pretty much assume that the government they've voted in more or less approximates the government they want." "You mean they actually vote for the lizards." "Oh yes," said Ford with a shrug, "of course." "But," said Arthur, going for the big one again, "why?" "Because if they didn't vote for a lizard, then the wrong lizard might get in."
