I work in the computer field. I am comfortable with many operating systems, from mainframe to PC. My favorite OS is macOS, but I use many flavors of Linux, and Windows in the course of my work.

A few years ago, I bought a Google/Asus Nexus 7 tablet because I wanted to dabble in the world of Android, Google's proprietary *nix OS. It was an average tablet, nice for its 7-inch display. Nothing remarkable. Then Google did something: they upgraded the OS which so mangled the machine it was rendered almost useless. So much so, that I have frequently entertained ideas of taking it to the range, painting a target on it, and taking pleasure in watching it shatter into so many pieces of metal, glass and plastic.

But no, I haven't.

Doing some research, I've learned that there have been some industrious folks who have come up with hacks to enable this device to run a more current version of Android, which supposedly makes the tablet usable again. This is where the horror begins...

I have spent nearly a day and a half trying to locate and download various drivers, utilities, ROM files, and what-have-you. Frequently, clicking a link takes me to a dead page, or a download that won't, or a utility that isn't. Despite the frustration, I think I'm on the verge of getting it done. I'm going to have baseball on the tv, a cold beverage by my side, and by the end of the day, I'll have a "newly refurbished" Nexus 7.

Or, I'm going to have a target.

I like android for my phone much better than the iPhone 7 I have now..... the iPhone when texting has no back arrow, and it stays wherever you were before.....click on phone contacts and you have to delete the previous search letters and start fresh. Etc.

After using an iPhone for a couple of years, I switched to Android (Samsung) and haven't looked back. I like it much better.

Yep. My workplace switched to iPhone 6s as their standard and pretty much everyone in IT hates them. They're much less capable in many ways.

I'm very analog, i.e. electronically-challenged and have never used an Apple product. Although they sell both, the folks at Verizon have always recommended android phones. Other than the fact that it has a mind of its own and routinely changes settings, I've been happy. It was, however, recently found to be the cause of my new Subaru's Bluetooth problem. At intermittent intervals, it would cause my front speakers to cut out for about ten seconds. It was as though I was receiving a text but there was no text. Uninstalling and reinstalling the phone fixed it ...so far .

The wife and I don't have smart phones, Luddites for sure. She's had an Ipad for a few years, I've never really taken to it being a Window PC user.

I got a Samsung tablet a couple months back and love it. It's so much closer to my PC experience, easy to move files back and forth and, for me, just more intuitive. Sure, not a PC but very very nice.

I had a Moto phone previously that annoyed the hell out of me due to problems caused by the Android updates. But the HTC phone I have now is nearly complaint free. One thing it did do that was odd/baffling was it lost a bunch of pics and videos soon after I got it, due to, of course, the Android update. I was kind of upset about it, but life went on. Suddenly one day, they were all back. I tried an Iphone 5 a while back, but as in pretty much everything Apple, I hated it and sold it off. No overpriced and trendy Apple stuff for me. Like 1911's, I'm immune to the love virus.

I have 3 iPad minis and an iPad 3 this applies to. They just don't have the horse power to run iOS 9 or 8 for that matter.

Android is intuitive for me. I'm just not wired right to understand iOS or any Apple computers. I've been a Windows user since 3.1 and DOS (MS and DR) before that. Love Win 7, because it's the same user experience as every version before it, just more added features. With Win 8 and 10, I have to go to three different places to do things I've been doing from one for years and some regular tasks for me aren't even possible without using the command line. I have zero use for and zero inclination to leard the new features as well.

I have to swim in the apple pool at work but my personal cellphone is an android. the only reason I have an iPad instead of an android tablet is that I don't want to carry around 2 tablets and I need the iPad to remote into the network.

The issue with android is not the android OS but the modifications and bloatware that all the companies load up on their devices.

A lot of people like Android. I used to like Android. But with Motorola going under, Google buying the remains and re-selling Motorola Mobility to Lenovo: The only phones that combined reasonable quality, a nearly pure Android experience and affordability went the way of the dinosaurs.

Coupled with Android's execrable security history: That was it for me. I moved my wife and I over to iThings a couple months ago.

I really miss the days of our Moto Gs, but those days were gone, anyway, and now I can at least marginally trust my smart devices.

One positive, at least: My Apple watch blows the ASUS ZenWatchII I had out of the water in every single way, hands-down.

Same here. I LOATHE apple software. Android 'just works' for me.

The only reason I went back to an iPhone 7 from a Galaxy S8 is there's no replacement to iTunes that works 100% of the time. I have 26 days of music. My playlists are important and none of them seem to load correctly on most Android phones or Google Play keeps randomly updating to the point every playlist has 1000 songs.

Sony phones seem the most reliable in regards to music, but they're not easily available in the US and have random hardware issues.

Besides that, I love Android. I can make it look or do anything I want it to, expect organize my music. At least Apple will probably go OLED with the new one.

What was wrong with the Google Nexus and Pixel phones? For me, it was the limited storage space and that microSD cards were the work of climate denyers!!!

I have a decent Android phone; I bought it from one of our members. It's in a drawer, ready to be activated and used on a pre-paid no-contract plan if I need it.

My daily use phone is an iPhone.

My take on this: If I were into tweeting stuff and messing around with a phone as a hobby, it would be Android, hands down. If I just want to use the thing and not spend time as a System Administrator, the iPhone is a much better choice for me. I rarely have to mess with it. Of course being a Mac user, it integrates nicely; software updates are automatic and for the most part not even noticeable.

Back to topic, my biggest gripe with Android is the way the last update slowed down my phone. It's a Galaxy S4 though, so that's just planned obsolescence really.

My first couple phones when smartphones first came out were androids and they SUCKED! But then again that was years and year ago so I'm assuming they all sucked just because it was new technology at the time I'm sure they are a lot better now.

I have had iPhones since the 3GS and have always been a huge fan of them, but I'm not very happy with the iPhone 7 because they didn't do ANYTHING to make it better and all the did was take away the headphone jack, which I use the headphone jack so now I would be required to carry around a stupid adapter piece to plug into the lightning port so I can use a headphone jack. Needless to say I didn't buy an iPhone 7, but my iPhone 6S is starting to have battery issues just because it's age and I want more memory so I'm going to need a new phone soon.... hopefully the iPhone Apple releases this year is better or I might have to consider an android phone...

I've used both and there's things I like about both. Currently on an iPhone and currently the plan is to stay with it.
