FINAL UPDATE:
The new dishwasher was installed this week but a day late. The salesman called to apologize and admitted it was because of a scheduling mistake on his end. It was still earlier than the 2nd Lowes install date (assuming they didn't cancel again) and we only had to make sure we were home during a two hour install window vs the 12 hour Lowes' install window.

On August 30, we buy a new Bosch dishwasher and are told that within two business days we'd get a call to schedule installation and it would be installed within 10 days. That never happened. We did get an automated call from some third party called CRST telling us they would be there to install the dishwasher on the 21st of September. I call Lowes and ask them what's up as that is well outside the window for installation. The "Manager" said he'd look into and call me back the next morning - he never did. Mrs. BB61 tried calling CRST and after an hour getting shuttled around got told it was the 21st or several weeks later. We accept the 21st. Today, we get an email, saying the installation has been bumped back another week to the 28th. Once again, no call, no effort to schedule, etc. I call Lowes a second time and wait for 10 minutes to get someone and get the same, I'll check into it.

Word to the wise, don't buy from Lowes. They won't be installing their product anytime soon and they just don't care. We're heading to a local furniture appliance store. They are a little bit more but they will deliver on time and they do have their own installers.

Buyer beware!

Well, to be fair, Lowes wouldn't be installing it anyway. They don't use Lowes employees. They just subcontract with a list of local installers and handymen. (As opposed to something like Best Buy's own in-house Geek Squad installers, which are typically actual Best Buy employees.)

So potentially still buy from Lowes if the price is right, but don't pay them extra to just hopefully eventually get around to handing you off to some random subcontracted local installer. All Lowes is there is an unnecessary middleman, and they tend to suck at that part. Whereas you can find and arrange an installer (plumber/handyman/etc.) yourself, and cut Lowes out of the loop.

Or install it yourself. Unless you're having to modify a cabinet space or run new electric/water supply, most home appliances are fairly DIY friendly if you're even somewhat handy, especially with the help of Youtube tutorials. (Though I'll concede that a dishwasher is a little bit of a step up in challenge from a basically straight plug-and-play appliance like a washer, dryer, or fridge.)

That's true, it's not a Lowes employee. But, part of the purchase price was installation. And I paid Lowes for that not the 3rd party. Therefore, Lowes should step up. If Lowes can't deliver what they promised, because their subcontractor is unreliable, get a new one for your customer or refund the price I paid for installation and I'll get my own but don't just tell me there is nothing you can do.

Bought a Whirlpool online when our LG died & delivered by Home Depot
Install was DIY, but of a pain but not bad.

Similarly, it would've been weeks & more $ for 'HD' install

Those third party companies can be problematic or perfect, we bought a new combo microwave and oven unit at Costco, they scheduled it, set the date, and showed up right on time, did the work and left with the old unit.

Sis in Law bought a fridge from Lowes, it was rescheduled, then on the day it was to be there in the AM it showed up late in the afternoon causing her to have to take the whole day off.

Lowes did deliver a new refrigerator for the garage and haul the old one off on time, so there is that...

We’ve had zero success with Lowe’s on any home delivery or installation. Last time my wife found a washer and dryer that Home Depot didn’t have.

Delivery was worth exactly what we paid for it, nothing. Wouldn’t switch the dryer door opening despite the supplied kit and unable to connect the vent (no clamps) and the piss poor appliance repair services I swore to buy nothing more unless I carried it out of the store with me.

A few years prior I contracted for them to replace an entry door. Three missed appointments by the installers to just do the measurement and the store arguing with me when I told them I wanted a refund on what they charged me to do the measurements. Store initially refused as the contractor told them that I cancelled anytime they tried to set up a time to measure the door!
I finally won that battle.

Home Depot on the other hand has replaced our dishwasher, delivered a refrigerator and replaced entry doors, all on day and time promised.

Home Depot began because the founders did not like tradesman selling product and labor. Now they do the same thing.

We went to the local furniture and home appliance store last night:

Dishwasher in stock? Check
Can you install it next week? Check
Comparable price? Check

Now we'll see if the installation is just as seamless.

My wife was a Manager at Lowe's . Now retired , thank God . She saw the decline in their operations . When they started contracting out the actual delivery, things really took a nosedive .

So my wife and I found the perfect refrigerator to replace the dying one we got when we moved in to our new to us home. The old one was in a tricky, less than ideal spot, but we gamed it out and the new fridge would work fine. Bought the new fridge from Lowes and paid to have delivered and installed. Contractors come in, look at it (without measuring or anything) and says "Nope, won't fit" and leaves with our fridge. Wife blows up CS at Lowes and Lowes says they call the contractor and report that contractor measured area and wouldn't fit. Wife achieves nuclear fusion temps and says that they never measured and we HAVE measured and it will fit. CS gets on phone with contractor and contractor says coming back (this is in the span of 15 minutes). Wife waits 1/2 hour and nothing. Wife call CS and asks ETA on delivery. CS says contractor stopped by and no one was home. Wife says cancel delivery and fridge getting returned. Gets return in full from Lowes.

Next day we go to Best Buy, find a very similar fridge to what we ordered (dimensionally the same, just slightly different style inside), pay less for delivery, delivery and install and removal occurs in less that 20 minutes, the majority of which is getting the old fridge out of our house. From return from Lowes to delivery by Best Buy, three days at height of COVID shortage.

Endcap is about a week after that, Lowes calls and says they need to schedule delivery of our fridge. There was MUCH meditation about how to respond, which eventually was simply "we returned the fridge a week ago, never call us again."

I like using Lowe’s because of the veterans discount but appliances is one area I will never ever go to a big box store for because I’ve just heard too many horror stories about about them using bottom of the barrel contractors who don’t show up or screw up installations.

Always try to use a local appliance store if at all possible, you will get the best service and people who know what they’re doing.

My sister and BIL's entire kitchen remodel has been one unmitigated disaster every single step of the way through Lowe's. Every single subcontractor that they have sent, (flooring, cabinet removal/install, countertops, electrical, ceramic backsplash) have each taken many more visits and scheduled/rescheduled multiple times. Was supposed to be done at the end of May, and they just got the backsplash installed at the end of August. They still have two light fixtures to just be replaced, not even new wiring, and can't get them to come out and finish it off. If I wasn't in a boot and needing foot surgery I'd be up on a ladder finishing it for them, but I really can't.

Cluster$^^%# from the get go. The person ordering their cabinets told them they could get their cab doors with a hidden ogee and no door pulls. All the cabinets show up and that was not done, and they call and were told that they don't have any manufacturers that do that door style anymore. The sink they got weas not what was ordered, and they couldn't even use it as a replacement as it would not fit in the sink base cabinet they got, so they were left for 6 weeks with the old cabinet base hacked out to fit a different sink they sent over as a temp. Really looked stellar, you can imagine.

The sink installer had to be dragged back to even do that because "he lived an hour away and had other work scheduled". This was rapidly turning into the Tom Hanks movie about renovating a house. She had to find her own painting contractor, for some reason the amount of painting done was not enough for Lowe's to sub it out?

The tile backsplash installer was great, though and did excellent tile work. Every other sub and task was really frustrating, especially when you see what the costs are. They have had parts missing from some of the cabinets they ordered, and in one case, they were missing just a small piece from a lazy susan cabinet. Lowes sent them an entire new cabinet and lazy susan. It's sitting in the garage, they called Lowe's to tell them of the mistake and were told that they (Lowe's) had marked the issue as closed, and the person would not even tell them how or if they wanted to return it.

I'm registered for the veterans discount at both Lowe's and Home Depot.

When I check out at Lowe's, the veteran status never shows up and I have to re-negotiate it with the cashier and / or supervisor.

It is a seamless process at Home Depot -- I just check out with my Home Depot account, and the veteran discount pops up on the screen.

Learned the hard way never to buy major appliances from Lowes. Bought a dryer from them and the product was damaged. Next delivery the same. 3rd delivery had a small dent on the side. They gave me a huge discount if I kept it which I did. All major appliance purchases since have been through a local employee owned appliance supply. Higher price but quality products, and expert installation.

I bought my current washer and dryer from Best Buy in 2018. They had some deal for "free" installation if you bought the hoses and power cable from them. Of course they were selling crap parts at high prices, so I declined the installation and said I would do it myself.

The delivery guys unboxed and set the washer and dryer in the laundry room (just off my attached garage). I used much better hoses and power cable I bought elsewhere and did the rest.

I've heard horror stories about contracted work from Home Depot as well.

Elaborating on Lowes and their in home service calls. The front loading washer was tearing the door gasket. First company they sent out replaced the gasket under warranty. Second one also tore, again replaced by the same company.

Second one tore, Lowe’s sent out a different company this time. They tried to tell my wife that she didn’t know how to use a front loader and she was catching clothing between the door and the basket. They told her it was misuse and she had to pay for the part and installation. She protested, showed them the two other work orders but the tech became a wiseass from what she said.

I called bull**** on that and went to the store. To say the least the conversation was not polite and soon involved the store manger. Finally they agreed to send out a different company as I told them if they sent that company out I wasn’t letting them in the door.

So the store sent out a third company A&E, used to be Sears Appliance Repair. By luck of the draw the tech was a friend of about forty years. He saw the damage together with the two previous service calls where the gasket was replaced. Tore into it and he found out that there was a deflector that was missing, this was the cause of the gasket tearing. He ordered a gasket and the deflector. Installed and still going sixteen years later.

I never installed a dishwasher in my life until I bought a dishwasher and installed it myself. It really is pretty simple and didn't take me longer than an hour or so because I had never done it before so give it a shot yourself instead of relying on unreliable installers. Ive had several appliances delivered by Lowes without an issue. Two refrigerators, washer and dryer, oven, microwave and they've always arrived within the scheduled delivery window. Lowes and Home Depot probably use the same third party contractors so you can get someone competent or incompetent its just the luck of the draw.
