My typically way overpriced Colorado hotel / restaurant combo askes on the menu to simply give money to the employees because it cost so much to live there. Gee. Why does it cost so much? This tourist fueled money grab offers basic accommodations and sit down food at nearly 50% over what it’s worth elsewhere and they want me to pay the employees rent?! “That’s what.” - She

I call that a shake down. "It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." I’ve seen posts on Reddit of restaurants in Commie areas of Colorado and California tacking on a 2-3-4% “employee healthcare fund” fee on customer bills. Ummm…isn’t that the owners responsibility to provide benefits like that? Now you’re forcing customers to subsidize that?

Thought that benifits offered by employers were optional and not required but employers used these benifits to entice people to come into their employment as a incitive to possibly make up for lower outright wages...............drill sgt.

Customers have always subsidized those benefits, it's part of the cost of doing business and always was. It's not very much different than raising the menu prices to compensate for a higher cost of living (and probably cost of benefits too) for the employees, just a little less honest. The employers just weren't so blatant about it in the past.

Yes I get that But adding a 4% employee health insurance surcharge to a bill AFTER the customer ordered an entree for $19.95 is scummy. They won’t just increase the entree price by 4% because they know people will balk at higher prices so they try and sneak it in after the fact. If I got a bill that had that, I’d demand it be taken off and I’d never go back and would tell everyone I knew not to go back.

You got it, absolutely. That's why I said it's "a little less honest" than raising menu prices.

Shit like this results in me just never visiting there, ever. No thanks. And it’s why when I go on vacation, I rent a place with a full kitchen and clothes washer/dryer combo. I end up going to the good grocery stores the locals use and get outstanding food. Fuck dining out. It’s not anything that I feel a compelling need for anyhow. With inflation the way it is, goods and services all overpriced, traveling has been put on hold for me. Just not interested in getting robbed. I’ve flipped to taking trips where my rural land is and spend my time there, prepping for my permanent move. I used to go to the US MotoGP race every year, WSBK before it, when MotoGP didn’t come here. 20 straight years or something like that. But now, renting a place is so expensive because all the VRBO/AirBnB, motels, hotels, jack the rates up to 3X-4X normal during the race week. It’s insane. Sucks giving up things you love to do but I refused to get robbed blind to do it. What am I doing? I'm talking to an empty telephone

I know the pain! We live in Orlando. TODAY, I asked my wife to join me for a quick lunch. She works from home, so we'll meet from time to time to get her a break outside of the home. We met at Chik-fil-A. 2 chicken combos=$37! REALLY?!?! $37 for 2 sandwiches, 2 med lemonades and 2 med waffle fries At least they didn't give me that UNICEF third world hunger frown and ask for a tip "It's gon' be some slow singing -n- flower bringing............ if my burglar alarm starts ringing"

We have been using VRBO and Air-BnB rentals for several years when travelling. Kitchen to prepare our meals, saves megabucks compared to restaurants. Room to relax and enjoy. Privacy. No worries about parking. Compared to run-of-the-mill motels and iffy restaurants it is a bargain. Found a few places we really enjoyed, saved the owners' contact information, make the connection directly next time and everyone benefits. They get a known customer, we get a good deal. I would have thought the inflated prices in the tourist money areas would b covering higher pay for the employees rather only funding the owners high life. They can do as please. The place I’m writing about expects you to order and pay using a QR code, the motel desk is only staffed 7am to 10 pm, and offers no free breakfast. It’s perfectly nice now after a recent remodel but with the aversion to having employees I wonder if maintenance will suffer. “That’s what.” - She

I hate to name names. I do recommend the place especially if one wants to avoid the congestion in Ouray. The room was dandy, the food very good, the people nice, more than adequate parking, nice backyard atmosphere off the restaurant outdoor seating. MTN Lodge in Ridgway. I just hope they are paying the employees commensurate with the high prices they charge. “That’s what.” - She
