  1. Sunday afternoon, the parking lot was busy, lot of pedestrians not watching where they were going (so what else is new?). I was idling along, maybe 10 mph if that.

Two females exit the store, apparently mother (maybe 40-ish) and daughter (late teens, maybe 20). Younger one has her head buried in her phone, steps off the curb right in front of me. Instant braking on my part, followed by loud continuous "wake-up" application of horn, which resulted in foul language from the younger female.

"Get your face out of your phone and watch where you're walking," said I, with an approving nod from the older woman.

  2. Into the store, first stop is the sporting goods area to look for a box of ammunition in a seldom-used caliber. Not on the shelf, I decide to post a question in the Ammunition section of SIGforum, using Walmart's free WiFi. "Access To This Website Is Denied." Huh? This error message was received to tell me that SIGforum, being a firearms-related website, is too dangerous to allow anybody to use. This, while standing in front of the counter where they sell (gasp!) ammunition.

Yeah, I see all sorts of businesses with signs on the door for "free WiFi."

Mostly chain type restaurants, but other businesses as well.

Free WiFi is pretty much the norm in my neck of the woods anymore. It's becoming rare that I have to use data time on my phone now days.

No. Could not find one. The guy in sporting goods barely spoke English, and what little he did speak, he mumbled.

Maybe try a different Walmart location, or go back to this one on a different day.

I don't use it, I refuse to agree to their terms for use. If it's important, I walk outside.

Only way I'll use Free Wifi is with VPN on my devices.

And if you are so hard up for cash that you can't do regular stuff on the internet without being on 'free wifi'... well, I don't know what to say to ya...

And one should avoid Walmart at all costs. Buy ammo in bulk, online. Buy groceries online and drive to the Walmart pickup, where they wheel it out to you and load it in your trunk. Etc, etc.

Costco was major crowded, it’s the last weekend before school starts Monday, every store was packed, roads full.

Get a vpn service if you use public WiFi it protects your data and you can get around the blocks

I depend on the free wifi at Lowes fairly often because my cell service mysteriously ends at the front door... you know, almost like walking into a huge Faraday Cage Big Grin

SF or any gun forum being banned is quite common on public or corporate WiFi. They run websense or some competitor and it blocks all firearm stuff as well as porn.

You can add about any item they stock if you use their grocery app. The Walmart grocery app is very good. The quality of the produce is superior to what you find in the store. This is coming from a guy who abhors actually going in a Walmart. I just added a bottle of tire shine to my wife’s order to be picked up Tuesday.

They lie. The last time I stayed at one of those places I got into a major "discussion" with them in the parking lot just before I checked out, while I was putting the color TV in my car.

We go to Walmart about every 8 weeks, for two items only, cheap cat litter and diabetes test strips. Walmart sux big time. Locally, I think they screen out any potential employee who is polite.

Walmart is one of my favorite stores. I check out multiple Walmarts for bargains especially garden supplies.

Last year, I scored 40 bales of peat moss for $2 each when they are normally $8.

I always check the clearance sections and some of the employees mark the items way down while other stores not as much. They had Rabbiteye blueberry plants marked down to $2.50 from the normal price of $29.

I have never had any problem finding help. Yesterday one employee spent 15 minutes or so looking for tadpole food for my peeper frogs.

Oh I don't use a stores WiFi for surfing. I use their apps to find a product or electronic discounts. Lowes and Home Depot have product finders on their sites to guide you to the location of a product you're looking for. Fred Meyers has digital coupons that you use at checkout. Things like that are handy.

Regarding Walmart, we don't shop there for anything other than cat and dog food. Both my wife and I hate the store for anything else.

Jim
