Damn tree rats have chewed through damn near all the aluminum ties on the chain link fencing. first time in the 20 years we have lived here. Guess I’ll need to find some steel ties.

They chewed a hole in the gas line on my 1992 Buick. Lucky, I have a good sense of smell since it was close to the exhaust muffler.
Then they chewed two wires on my truck. At the other place, they chewed all the insulation off the hood of my 1982 Buick, I assume for lining their nest.

I've had them chew off the posts on a boat battery. I just threw away three plastic lawn chairs they had chewed so severely that they were too sharp edged to use. They chewed a hole in my tiller gas tank.

They just merrily dig holes all over my turf, it's very aggravating as they can be quite large and deep. Squirrel claws are some serious digging tools.

Well I won’t even get started on how they try to eat the hickory nuts before they are ready. They get through the cover and the shell is so hard they drop them, on the vehicles, looks like hail damage.

They did that to mine as well. Though the ties were about 45 years old at that point. They also chew on the scrap lead I have stashed behind the shed. They need to chew. At one point I put out some "chew" wheels, like you'd put in a hamster or other pets cage, put them near the feeders I had out at the time. Honestly I don't remember if they used them or not.
I had so much trouble at one place were I can shoot safely that I made up some shot shells for the 44 mag. I used the 444 Marlin case cut off for the full length of the cylinder and some 410 wads with 7 1/2 shot and flour.
Sometimes you walk up on a squirrel doing the number on your blueberries and they will freeze thinking you don't see them. The shot shells are good to 30 or 40 feet.
They are smart and will cut clusters of acorns off a tree and then go down eat them.
They have a good sense of smell and one time I had hulled a bunch of black walnuts. I had a 3 gallon pot full of black walnuts setting in the bed of the pickup. A squirrel smelled them and in a matter of hours, they were all gone.
Pecan trees are their favorite nut. They will come from a great distance and eat until they are full and rest on a limb to digest their bounty. You may only see several squirrels feeding but when you start shooting, the tree becomes alive. I have had squirrels jump out of the tree to get away.

I also had this problem. I tried trapping and relocating them and it was a never-ending ordeal and still accomplished nothing but more frustration for me. I put up a very detailed looking fake owl on a fence post and they have stayed far away from my back yard since then. You have to keep moving the location of the owl. Squirrels are very smart. They will know the owl is fake if you don't move it every 30-45 days or so. Also. be sure to get the one that articulates. The head moves on mine and they also make them now that make sound.

I'm now noticing these little bastards are starting to dig holes again around here now that the ground has softened up from getting some actual rain recently. I guess during our little mini-drought there the ground got too hard and dry for them.

They've chewed into my attic, wires in my truck, insulation in my car....I hate the things. Yesterday at work I got called to a utility pole on fire, and found this. At least he won't do it again.
