I'm just disgusted with social media and embarrassed for my sport right now. 16 year old Caelin Shanklin set a new world record shooting an Olympic recurve during USA Archery's Indoor Nationals. Caelin shot a 300/300 and then a 296/300 breaking a world record that has stood for 12 years. Not just for his age group but for all age groups.

USA Archery posted a Reels video congratulating him on his achievement. The amount of shit posting in the comments section that followed is just shameful. Belittling the achievement, bullying of a 16 year old kid and making fun of his appearance. Really, this kid is arguably the best in the world and this is how the archery community reacts to it?

The amount of stupidity posted would be funny if I wasn't so mad about it.

That's a bummer to hear. I enjoy the small bit of recurve time I manage to squeeze in. I'm happy for a 5-6in group for now, and that's at about 15-20 yds.

The comments are mostly a bunch of donkey purists going "wahhhh i'd like to see him do that without all the stuff on that" or "id like to see him do that with a real bow"

Some people have such shitty lives they can't stand for anyone to excel. These people have gotten far too comfortable showing their asses from behind a keyboard. These are people who would never have the seeds to say these things face-to-face back in the days before the internet.

I've said it here before; I miss the days when an asshole would get smacked in the mouth for not minding his manners.

I’ve never been on any of it. I took a look back in the day and separated it into a few categories. The braggars and people that front. Look at me, look at my new car/house/vacation pics, blah blah. Trying to impersonate some world star type bs and in reality they were miserable. So it was all an act. Fake as a $3 bill.

Then the rest is just toxic. Everyone bitching, finger pointing, etc. A friend of mine said it best. He is real religious and doesn’t get on the internet, at all. He says all anyone does on the social media apps is complain. Everyone feels mighty tough behind their 6” glass dick. And 90+% of them wouldn’t say that toxic shit in person.

Social media app companies are worth billions of dollars because their members just give away their data, personal information for free, then the company sells it to everyone. Not even the highest bidder, just anyone that wants the information. It’s in the TOS, but nobody reads it. They are data mining you. AI learning who you know, where you work, what you like to do, who your parents are, who your kids are, on and on and on to the break of dawn. I’m not giving my information away for free. If they want me on their bullshit app they need to pay my ass and we need to agree on a DMZ, in writing, on what can and cannot be used of my personal information. They would never agree to that because if everyone did that their got damn company would be bankrupt. Wouldn’t exist any longer.

Then to make matters worse these Silicon Valley POS have hired psychiatrists to help them with the algorithms. All designed to hook people and keep them coming back for more every single day, all day. Getting that dopamine going for all the dopeheads on it all the time. In reality they are drug dealers and the drug they are selling is dopamine. Around here people are zombies on the phones. Every drive I see so many people looking down at their phones while they drive a 3000-6000 pound vehicle. What are they looking at? Social media apps. I think they are all a plague upon society.

If they want somebody that looks good, they can hire the Chippendales. If they want somebody to hit the target, Caelin is it.

I try to avoid the comment section of any posting. People are just awful. Folks will spend time making something quite nice, and other folks just need to come along and piss all over it.
