I'd forgotten this incident, it was so long ago. Your post reminded me.
When I was a tyke, my family had to go away for the evening - probably to a Christmas party - and it was bitter cold, so Dad, trying to be nice, left Herman the dachshund in the garage with the door open to his beloved (read: beat up) Nash.
When we got back, Herman had dug a nice comfy hole in the front seat. I'm not sure why Dad didn't kill the dog - if one of us kids had done it, I'm pretty sure that's the treatment we would have gotten.
