Drivers license written test
Last time I renewed was at age 80+ after cataract surgery.
Did the vision test and the restriction that required corrective lenses for driving was removed; I now have an unrestricted license.

This reminded me of the Opie and Antony radio show, when the blind guy and his friend called in from the DMV, as the blind guy renewed his NJ driver's license. (Which he was successful in doing, memorizing the eye chart and having his friend verbally coached/guided him on where to sign.

My driver’s license renewal appointment was today. After I passed the vision test, the young lady asked me if I wanted to skip the written test.

“Fuck yes,” I was inclined to reply. But good judgment prevailed before I activated vocal cords. Two weeks of cramming for nought.

I was reminded of the scene in the TV show Taxi where Reverend Jim had to do the written test. All the other taxi drivers were there to "help" him.

First question: Jim stage whispers "What does a yellow light mean?"

Jeff Conaway: "Slow down."

Jim: "Whaaaat....does....aaaa...yellow...light...mean?"

I laugh every time I think about it.

Yes it was. The three bullet items on my letter from the CA DMV:
* Pay $41
* Pass vision test
* Pass written test

For my previous three DL renewals the written test requirement has been on the DMV notice. This was the first time that the service people gave me a free pass. Maybe because I went to the Poway station instead of the Clairemont station? I’ve previously gone only to Clairemont (closer), but it had no appointment slots before my DL expired.

The folks at Poway seemed generally nicer I’ll go there next time too, even though it’s five times further away. Thank God SIGforum doesn’t require a written test. Smile

Apparently you glossed over that requirement in The Waiver. Page 38.
