With some time to kill. Go to get a beer and a snack.

To start with, I have to scan a QR code to get to the menu.
Then I have to order from the webpage.
Then there is a 3% employee wellness charge.
Then there is no option to not leave a tip.
Then I have to pay on the site with a card.
And it requires a phone number and a email address.

So I call one of the servers(?) over and I ask him if he can just bring me a beer and I’ll give him some cash.
Nope, has to be through the website.
I told him that I would never want a beer so bad the I would play with that monkey fuck of a system to get one and I left.

I’m not dealing with their stupid shit.

Nice job, sir. Hopefully your message was effectively delivered to the management.

God bless America.

Is there any way to get a beer or a snack if you do not have a smart phone?
  • How would you scan the QR code?

  • How would you access the website?

  • How could you pay if you were not able to access the website?

  • How could you pay if you did not have a credit card?

  • What if you don't have an email address?
So many things wrong with this setup.

What facility is the concession?

Went through the exact thing a couple years ago at LaGuardia. I did the exact same thing as you.

Needed a degree in computer science just to figure out how to order a fargin drink.

"Nope"

Businesses get away with ot because you don't have much recourse because you're stuck at the airport and the majority of sheep simply obey as directed. Nobody's get my email address or phone number so I would have walked also. Did you try any other eateries at the airport to see if they all have the same policy?

You got Gen Z’d. They want to do everything on my precious, and I mean everything. So here’s Apple Pay, QR Code menus, pay for it with your phone. Old school menus, cash, fuck all that because they want to use the phone instead. Business has pivoted to their generation and they don’t care about much anyone else.

My wife straight up refuses to play this game which got bad after Covid. She will tell the waitstaff to bring her paper menu or she's walking out. They bring the menu.

Houston Bush Intercontinental has the same bullshit. I haven't been in years, but I heard Houston Hobby has the same bullshit too.

There used to be several Houston-based restaurants in the airport which gave visitors some Houston flavor. Unfortunately, the airport board put it out for bid and most of the Houston based businesses were kicked out and replaced with some national/global chain. There was quite a bit of scuttlebutt on the chain being china backed and bribery of board members.

It's actually worse than the OP described. Since the chain has multiple themed restaurants and bars in the airport they shutdown most of the old kitchens, and centralized the cooking. Food runners are now carrying food across the airport.

I jumped through all of the hoops on a business trip because I was hungry for hot food. I ordered, I received a credit card notification from my corporate credit card, and then I waited and waited for a drink and food. Finally, I stopped a "waitress" (more like food runner) and it turns out the order never made it from the web to the airport. I no longer had enough time to restart the process so I left. I had to get a cold sandwich from an airport c-store. I couldn't do anything with the credit card company while the charge was pending, but a few days later had to get the charge reversed. Reversed charges are a pain in the ass in the corporate expense reporting. In other words, I felt like I got fucked over 3 times - at the airport, going the charge reversal process, and then going through the added fun when submitting expense report.
