Once again Mayo Clinic more than disappoints me
So I was told I had a possible neuropathy in my hands and feet by my arthritis doctor (not a Mayo Clinic doctor). I relayed this info to my GP and had to come in to confirm before I could see a neurologist at Mayo (my GP is part of Mayo). Possible neuropathy, I needed to see a neurologist to confirm and treat. Lovely. Scheduling was supposed to call, but after a few days of no contact, I called them and found out that Neurology had no openings until July. And July's schedule wasn't released by Neurology yet! But "people cancel all the time." OK, put me on the waitlist. Oh, they don't use a waitlist, you have to call in each day, maybe a couple of times a day!

So the vaunted Mayo Clinic has outdone the VA here in Phoenix.

Now I'm waiting for a referral outside of the Mayo Clinic. Wonder how many days that will take?

With Mayo, it’s best to go ahead and make an appointment and then call every couple of days and see if there has been a cancellation. That’s how a family member got in 3 weeks sooner than the original appointment date.

Mayo is much different since people come from around the world.

Are you using the VA Choice program?? It is not unusual to have to wait to see specialists.

People do cancel all the time. Be polite to the staff and I bet you will be seen much sooner. If it is suspected neuropathy expect another appointment to do nerve conduction tests.

BTDT with Mayo Neurology in Rochester after a stroke 'after' issues. My GP sent a letter explaining why I needed to see them after the local Neurologists (large teaching hospital to which my doctor was a senior internist) were unable to resolve issues. Got a letter from Mayo (using my Mayo ID # (former patient there) that their Neurology review board was unable to schedule a visit because the local care was sufficient. Amazing to hear Mayo saying other care was as good without even an examination by them, based upon my prior care there.
Heard through several other medical sources that there is a shortage of Neurologists nationwide, but cannot provide verification. So your story confirms there are still Neurology 'scheduling' issues at Mayo. Best of luck going forward!

If it's any consolation, getting into neurology anywhere is a long way out. Ours locally are booked up for 4-6 months.

The mayo handled my wife's breast cancer well, and was very professional.

Seems to be lately that a lot of these places think their time is much more valuable than yours.
Brother has cancer and 3 times since February, the doctors offices in Columbus(2 hours away), just call and change the appt by an hour or two. One time we were on the road and he got a call saying the appt had changed...recording.
